Steve Holmes sent me some of the fire agates he collected in Arizona to see what I could do with them. I should have taken a before picture so you can see what a difference there is from a rough fire agate to one that has been ground down to bring out the fire. 25x17mm I also picked up a lb of fire agates from my local rock shop today and considering these are what he calls his "B" grade, there are some really nice pieces. 24x18mm This one isn't done yet, but it has some nice fire in it. And a heart I made for one of the workers who was here yesterday installing new windows. He saw my cabs and asked if I could make a heart for his girlfriend and a fish pendant for him. So even when I take a day off from work, I still made some money. 27x22mm Thanks for looking.

Those are really wicked, Ed. If that is B grade material, I'd love to see the A grade! -Don

Those are sweet! The un-finished one is crazy, looks like it's about to explode.

Wow, I agree with all of the above!! The fire looks like it's going to boil right out of each cab. That stuff is wonderful! Great work Stoner and the heart is cool also. Thanks for sharing, Tonja

Thanks everyone. These are the first fire agates I've ever taken all the way to polish. I started grinding on some other ones, but never finished them because I wasn't sure what I was doing. It's fun when you start seeing the fire, and the more you grind, the more fire your reveal. Knowing when to stop is the tricky part. The heart is cut from some kind of agate I got a long time ago. I made a heart for my wife for Valentines day from the same stone. It almost looks like there are blood vessels going through it.

Nice job Ed. A trick with ones that are offset like the last one. Once you get the fire to the palce you pleased with. Cut the back tto make it more flat, cabochon like. I often will work the tops frist, then the sides and back so to insure i dont have to second guess myself when its a funky shape. When jewelers in allot of cases will not go for the funky shape. At least the ones that do it fulltime.

Caymus, I get these at a shop close to my house. It's called Wenric's. I went back and bought some more, but I left plenty for other people to grab some while they can. Just about every piece I picked up had some nice fire in it.
