About a month ago I checked out the website that features this picture jasper and just had to give it a try. This stuff is amazing and apparently has a right and wrong direction to cut. Or, at least the nodule I got was. The first photo is a cut off the end of the nodule. Same nodule, cut perpendicular to the first cut. What a difference. Same cab, turned 90 degrees to show a different picture. What picture do you see in this shot? These and a few other cabs are in the cab section.

WOW! WOW! WOW!
And the third picture is a royal portrait of one of those English Lords with the ruff around the neck and the fancy vest-coat from the time of Elizabeth the First. You can see his hooked nose as he stares out to the right. I think it's BEAUTIFUL!

I like 'em both, Ed. Gorgeous.
There's a good lesson to be learned there, though - don't just automatically cut something in half. Ok on an agate or a thunderegg, but not here.

They're gorgeous, Ed. The 2nd cut is my fav, and in the 2nd pic I see an erupting volcano. In the 3rd is a sort of profile - man - nose in the right side.

Wonderful looking stuff Stoner. That third cab looks like a cave opening with a campfire inside, shinning off the cave wall. Those are just beautifull. Tonja

Thanks everyone. This picture jasper is really nice to work with. The only problem is I had to make the cab fairly large because I didn't want to ruin the scene. I think I'll try to buy some more of it before I get too buried in debt!

Way to go Ed, and thanks for the reminder. As soon as i saw your cabs last week i had to just buy a piece to try since they had their catalog working. I like both views personally, but i would agree even though to me, with this grade of rough, cutting down through the rind, with the tight layers helps elongate that pattern. I hear ya, the material is spendy for what they are selling. Interesting stuff none the less, more so becasue its river tumbled rough it looks like.

Amazing patterns captured beautifully in that cab. Well done Stoner (and Mother Nature for creating the rock in the first place!)

Fantastic cab, Ed. That's really quite an amazing difference depending how you orient the cut. -Don
