Well had another Kansas rock hunt today. No don't worry not as many pictures this time. I picked up some more nice crazy lace (I think I've found it all and each time I go back I get a little more) some chrysocola, agatized coral and a bunch of other stuff 25 lbs in all. I have four I don't know what they are, one I will not show until I cut it but there was a tiny chip off of it that got me excited, we will see. These two I am not sure of, the tape in the middle fell off one of them in the bucket but I don't remember which one, doesn't matter I can't read it anyway. The colors are true. This one I should know but just can't think of it. Thanks for any help Spike

Spike: That's Unakite sp? on the upper left and Dumortierite in quartz on the bottom. Don't recognized the purple piece upper right but man it looks good. Can't wait to see it cut open....Mel

Thanks Mel, sorry you had to think on your Birthday for me, may you find a Falcon with a good eye for agate as a present.
I searched for unakite and found for those that believe in that kind of thing it is supposed to help release feelings in people, it must work I liked it alot and could see cabs galore.
Yeah, I want to see the other cut also. So much so I was tempted to drive home and do that very thing. But that would cost me $20 in gas and the rock only cost me fifty cents. It will have to wait until Monday.

Wow! So why do you have great rocks in Kansas, and just a little north and west in Nebraska is so barren? I am very intrigued by that purple rock. Can't wait to see what folks here come up w/ as an ID. And the blue banded rock looks like some 'blue quartz' that I purchased from the Rockshed??? Not much help, but thanks for the great pix!

Great stuff spike! I really like the purple one. It shows some nice bandings and patterns. I wonder if it could be a piece of Hollly Blue??? Steve

The rock hunt, was in the parking lot of the only rock shop in at least a hundred miles. They are closing and dumped the unsorted rough they had into the parking lot. There is Nootthhiinngg,uh (Doing my best Ron White impression) around here except limestone. So the "Kansas rock hunt" is kind of a oxymoron. To be fair there are a lot of fossils, some where is Dendritic Milk Opal (very NE I think) and I have been told Amber but I think that is all on private property. This might explain it a little better: forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/index.cgi?board=Pictures&action=display&thread=1187633483Spike

Spike: Looked through my notebook trying to ID the purple example. Only things I can see even close are Agua Nueva Agate and Purple Passion Agate both out of Mexico. It looks like I'm seeing some tubes and eyes in the specimen you have. Both those are common along with bands and fortifications in Agua Nueva Agate so I'd lean in that direction myself....Mel

So how much are they charging for the rock from that pile?

Hey guys...I could very well be wrong but isn't Holly Blue another one of those that can only be from Oregon?

It really is something else. I was looking at a site today that has hundreds of cabs for sale (I use it for ID reference) and in it was a DING, DING, DING, Agua Nueva Agate that could have come from this parent. Mel gets three cow bell rings for pulling this one out, I tried to find it before the post and even searched for Agua Nueva Agate afterward, but this one today was just er uh, dead on.
