I just got back from Challis where I went on an elk hunting trip with my wife and some of my buddies, I was not hunting, but I begged to go along!! I got some wildlife pics and a few pics of the haul, nothing too specific, there are gobs and gobs of agates, and some scattered jasper. Here are 3 wild horses with about 100 antelope in the background A pair of Bighorn sheep, the ram is standing on the left and the ewe is laying down on the right A coyote hightailin it over the rock ledge A little whitetail buck, he thinks if he doesn't move you can't see him An old homestead that is still in fairly good shape The inside of the main cabin The inside of the tack room, those pegs are to hang the saddles on A huge rock that some funny local thought needed to be propped up to keep it from falling and blocking the road The back of the pickup when we pulled into town to unload, all the backpacks you can see are still full of rocks. some closeups Some rocks rode home on the snowmobile trailer, the big hole is where the bigun was riding The bigun, it is a mix of jasper and agate. I put a water bottle there for size comparison. A sampling of some of the material, The white and orange nodules are agates and the other 3 are jaspers. This white nodule I found in 2 pieces about 20 yards apart, they both fit together perfectly I will post more later as I sort through the pile of stuff in the back. Tony

Great trip report Tony. I like the animal pics too and what a haul of rocks you brought out. That two piece white nodule has beautiful banding! Don't forget more pics of the rocks when you cut or crack them open.....Mel

Tony, I have dreams of visiting places like that and not just for the rocks.
The idea of being outdoors in the snow with the mountains and run-down log cabins...sweet. And the wildlife too! Kangaroos, possums and snakes can get a bit boring after a lifetime of them.
Thanks for taking the time to take the photos and allowing us to join you. I hope to repay your kindness in a few days.
Nice haul too, mate.
Mike

Nice haul Tony. Once again you were able to load up the truck with some nice finds. Didn't bring the trailer this time? Actually I'm surprised you didn't take a pic of that huge rock on the roadside with your pickup backed up to it, and someone pulling the braces out!

Funny Stoner! Actually my father in law suggested that when I backed up and took the picture. Actually I had a 20' snowmobile trailer with 4 sleds on it, we did put the larger ones on the trailer. Never got enough snow to ride, though. Too bad, I was really looking forward to that.
Mike, I am looking forward to the kangaroo, possum and snake pics. Thats something we dont see around here.

Challis, Idaho. If anyone wants to go, we could organize a trip, I would sure go!!!! Lots of places to collect, every hill has something different, lots of places we could go for a small day trip, old mines, etc. It is all wilderness study area, so it may get shut down, who knows?

Great Pics Tony! I just read where government relocated some big horn on the I-84 . (highway that goes along the Columbia River Gorge.) At Biggs Junction (home of Biggs Jasper) there was a herd that camped out right on the highway & it freaked people out so bad they were causing too many accidents so they picked 'em up & moved them way far away!

What great pictures! Thank you for sharing them - all the wildlife ones & the old homestead, oh & the rocks too! That sure looks like it was a fun trip & seeing the pictures kind of makes me feel like I was able to go there. I've never been over near that area & it really looks like a fantastic place. That white nodule is killer too - love the banded agates! ;D Patti
