It is much better to use paper towels then rags in the rock shop. Rags will carry grit and dirt in them and will only contaminate things. Don't wipe hands on your apron or clothes.This practice will also add to contamination. Wearing surgical gloves can be a real pluss as you can just throw them away and not worry about grit cary over. I always use paper towels for the tumbling stuff- It is the only sure way to keep it cclean- I do use rags to mop up water as I cut on the saw- or grind with the dremel

Same as Stefan, I've always used paper towels for clean up for tumbling purposes. Get those huge packs that go on sale every now and then and stock up!!
