You sure can Rocky, Its gonna take time, and you may have to have a few extra bits on hand to make sure you can do them all for a batch. And i hounestly can say you wont save much time going this route. lascodiamond.com/ is were i buy diamond bits for this kinda of work. That is theyre speicality, and they offer a good return if theres problems, becasue they make all their bits. either the CL95 or CLR95 will work ideally for what your thinking. lascodiamond.com/products/8thpg1.htmThese bits can and do remove allot of material, so depending on the stones you're using, and how many you need to fill your tumbler/s. Will you then know how many bits you need. And you only need the corase type, i suggest either 40 or 80 grit. But if you using soft stones like Sodalite, start with a 100grit. As the 40 or 80 may cut to much, too fast on soft stones. BUt they are idea for hard agates and jaspers. Post more questions if you gotem.

That will be the case, as you can by lots of diamond bits for pennies on the dollar. And it wont hurt to buy one of those cheap $10-$15 sets that have allot of burs and shapes. Just to see how the shape cuts for you, how they handle.
BUt over all, the cheap ones just wont last. I have some small diamond core drills i got from lasco last year. Used them too many times to count for a client which i cut smoking stones for. Problely have done over 300 of them and im still using the same bit. Was more than worth the cost from lasco.

Diamonds need water, and high speed. Much under 7000rpm, and the bits get smoked real quickly. With my Foredom, I use an upspeed convertor. I can slow it down, and speed it up. Most shaft units run 7000 and lower.

I bought a set of 40 grit diamond burs on eBay from a seller name Omaha, have bought a couple of sets from him of different grit. If used properly, even the cheap ones will last quite awhile. They need to be used in water and make sure you don't force the bit by pushing too hard agaist the rock or let them get too hot. That will ruin the bit in no time.

I also bought diamond bits off Ebay a while back and they are great! If you use little presure and take your time these will last for a long long time. He sells them in quanities of 25, 50 and 100 bits. PLUS he has many different bits. They work great on glass and I have drilled as high as 200 pieces with one bit, but on occasion I have only got 4 or 5 pieces. Here is the link if anyone wants to check him out: search.ebay.com/_W0QQfgtpZ1QQfrppZ50QQsassZuscuttingtoolsHe also has a webstore... here is that link, but the bits are higher: diamondbursnet.stores.yahoo.net/

I bought some of the bits from Widget Supply and so far, they aren't too bad. I used the thin round one in the set to drill holes and it worked really good. Had the rock sitting in a pan of water.
