After seeing some small areas in a couple of the Woodward agates I just rolled that were not so shiny, I got out the 35K rpm Dremel and a felt polishing pad, a little of the Al Oxide polish I have drying out and began to fervently work the areas in question. Suddenly, I LICKED the area I was working on to add a little moisture. DO NOT DO THIS! I will admit the smell of searing tongue flesh whetted my appetite for some well done steak though!

LOL - I haven't licked the area, but I did rub a rock I was cutting on once. And then I had to touch it again to see if I had imagined things.

Remedy for "searing tongue flesh" . . . run outside and lick the lamp post. (Most effective at this time of year.)

I have never, ever licked a rock - do you think I ought to start? Is is addictive? You don't know what you are missing till you have had a good rock licking hehe and you get all your minerals when you are in the field

Yeah, I was licking my fingers and wetting the edges of some rocks yesterday in my living room, then after about 5 rocks, realized I had some grit in my mouth. I was so happy to find it wasn't a broken filling, the fact that it was rock and dirt didn't phase me a bit

Ouch! I know it's not funny by still hard not to laugh. My wife always has to warn me not to lick the rocks where the dog does his business and I've been licking rocks like 50 years *L*....mel

When I first came to this board,I didn't know what a rocklicker actually was. Then one day I finally understood. (I know...takes me a little while sometimes)
No matter how many rocks i pick up...I can't lick em. I'm a spitter.
Now that I am starting to collect large amounts of material in my yard...I'm even more cautious. I have a Mojo & it's his yard. I don't want to lick where he's been. I love him...but I ain't gonna lick. Thhhhh!

Liz - I have to agree. I'm a spitter also.

I'm a spitter three! - but I do have a small spray bottle of water near my work station and will use that over spit anytime - who knows what I'd end up coughing up on the stone! I try not to lick and that poo that Don's holding... is that fresh? I can almost see the steam rising.... yuck!
