I hope I can get my hands on some more Marfa Plume!! It's neat stuff! The little white plumes just glow in the sunlight and really stand out against the black. Stuff takes a great polish too! Nancy - the only problem with making these crosses is that I can't make enough of 'em and they seem to take forever to finish. Right now I'm trying to finish 6 of 'em for another board member. I still owe Cher a blue one... just can't find the right material! ..and another member want's a Mook jasper cross like this one: ...but I just can't sell her this one I have orders for family members as well... I really want to make a cross for everyone that wants one... And I'll definitely do that... but it will take some time... Thanks for being patient with me folks... Dan

Way to go Dan! I've tried cutting those on my tile saw and haven't gotten it right yet. I'm wasting a lot of stone. My son asked for jade crosses for himself and his girlfriend and I've been puttering & cussing at the project for a year now!!!
Don't worry about not having a vibe. I got one and can't get a decent finish out of it - nothing like what I get out of the rotary. I also find that I have to do so much grinding and shaping to get a good finish with the vibe that I end up hand grinding/polishing on my flat lap (no Genie yet!!!). You're really, really good at the cross making.

WEll, I totally understand. (yeah right)...naw, just kiddin', I do. I'll be patient...just put me on the list for 3. I assume a soft stone is easier for you...right? (like porcelain jasper?) That mook is gorgeous as well. sigh.... Now quit showing those buggers, and maybe you'll catch up on em. lol....

That piece is too cool. If I had 1/10 your talent I would be strutting like a Peacock.

Yowza, Dan. Nice, nice work. I would not have thought to wrap that way (of course, I haven't wrapped anything yet!). I continue to be impressed and inspired by your creativity. You are pushing me closer and closer to giving it a go.
Thanks also for the sideways view. That helps a lot for us non-wrappers trying to figure out how this stuff works in our heads.
Great job.

I hear ya.. but really it's quite humbling to have so many nice things said about my work by so many folks that I highly respect. To me it's more about perserverance than talent... lol. Matt - Thanks bud. You're very kind. I really think anyone can do this... it definitely takes some practice though... the more you do the better you get. I'll try to get some pics of the process.. i'm working on another one.... Dan

Awesome stuff - I love the way that this board plays host to such creative talents (many of which are bordering on genius).
Mind boggling.

Way cool Dan.....I need to post a pic of the only cross to date of mine that has turned out. I did a really really simple wrap that I didn't like at first, but it kind of grew on me. Did you just use 2 wires here, and what size?

wow... thanks again folks.. some real nice comments... very kind.
KJ - it's 2 wires, sterling silver .. main wires are 20 guage dead soft square and the bindings are 22g half-round, half-hard. The 20g wire i bought from Firemountaingems.com and the half-round was purchased here in houston at a beading supply place. Dan

The cab and the wrap are awesome! I like that no matter which way it hangs it looks great! The wrap doesn't over power the stone. Love it!

Was looking at your other crosses - still not tired of seeing these! Didnt' realize that these are among the first ones you've done!!! Amazing! I'd have sworn you've been wrapping these for years! Please keep posting your pics - between the stones, the saw work, and the wrapping - I'm totally mesmerized by your creations! Definitely "oooh" and "ahhh" provoking!
