Every year for christmas we make presents for our close friends and family. Over the years we've done just about everything I thought, but this year my wife saw a gem tree and wanted to try them. Mind you she had never made these before. Turns out she is a natural. She loved making them. In all, I made just one while she made the rest. Oh, and mine took most of an afternoon. She just picked these up in no time. She's so cool. I guess I helped out a little in cutting rocks to make the bases, bending the roots to fit and gluing them on. We were quite a gem tree making team. Thanks to those who helped with the tutorial and information. Here's the 7 we (er, she) made after they spent some time in the oven to cure the epoxy. They are all made with chip beads and are about 6 inches tall including rock base. Steve The "forest": Amethyst on red jasper from near here (Hamburger Ranch brecciated jasper as named by Pete) and sodalite on a brazilian nodule half. Green and red (probably fancy jasper from india) on petrified wood. Another jasper and aventurine, both on petrified wood. The first one was the one I did. Aventurine (?) on a brazilian nodule half and blue glass chip beads on petrified wood.

Those are MAGNIFICENT!!!!! Every single part of the tree is beautiful! I love the "earth" on which each stands and the root systems look so natural! And I am totally impressed with the twisting and gnarly trunks and branches. And then there are those detailed leaves! WOW! Simply WOW!!!!!!!
Thank you for shraing your amazing artistry with us!!!!

Who would have thought eh? ;D Those look awesome!! They look very professional, she should try a few other things. I'll bet she'd be a natural at wire wrapping as well.

Wow she did a great job. I remember wanting to do one several years ago but never gave it a try. I know KD did so she can testify to what a job it is. Love the way she did the roots and all, bet those went over with a bang.
How many wires did she use in the trunk, did you find a tutorial somewhere or did she just wing it?

So cool! Next time you do a rock show, you should have one proudly by the tumblers!! I love the drooping branches of the bottom blue glass chip one, and the roots are wonderful! Reminds me of Monterey... Dee

For family and close friends? Mine must still be in the mail then! ;D Those look great. That's the first time I've seen them mounted on a chunk of rock like that, I like it! They look like some of my bonsai trees.

Those look really great! Ive never made one but have always admired the work that goes into them. What stands out the most to me is the roots! They look so realistic.

I think KD had her's mounted on a rock too. It's perfect for them and they look so cool. Did you keep track of how many beads you used on each one?
