esty.com looks good. There is probably a way to link you ebay auction to your webstore. I would check that out. Use ebay to increase the traffic on your site.

When you list something , it often will not "index" and show up on the search results from 2 to 6 hours after listing . There are all kinds of preferences to set , and one of them is combining the shipping . Go to your "my ebay" page and then in the left hand column go to preferences. You'll have to go in and set it to do that and set what amount the subsequent items are discounted to . In the meantime , you should also state your policy in the text of your listing . " we combine shipping , ask for an invoice when you are thru shopping " is a bare bones approach . On the top right hand of most any ebay page is a link to community . Click this and then select discussion boards . You can ask any question there and get good answers . Those boards are a scary place right now because the majority of the sellers are upset with ebay . There are also a few jerks on the board too , so expect some smart , nasty answers on occasion .

i learned 1 thing on ebay....you better make insurance mandatory on all listings.....whether you or the buyer pays for it....if i buy a slab from you....and it arrives broken....i better be offered another just like it...or im gonna get my money back thru paypal...or my credit card....cause it is no longer as described....and send the item back
dont yaw ebay folks....tell me insurance is optional....if i dont get my items...or they arrive broken....i win....i get my money back from paypal or my credit card.
you better be able to self insure your items ...or work insurance into your selling price.
you cant leave me a negative if i ask for a discount on shipping after the sale also....ebay says you cant....so haha.
im just being an ass ;D...but all i said was true ;D.....kev.

I think I have purchased a book from you Rodney (your ebay store) do you sell copies of Take a hike Rock collecting in N GA. Great Book, If this is the same then listen to what he is saying he has great reviews. great service and super fast shipping. I got emails telling progress of order. Everything works off of ratings (i gave you 5 stars Rodney). That is how i came to chose who i did to buy from they even rate you as a buyer. its got to be tuff to make a living at that. one or two pissed of people and your ratings are in the toilet.
GOOD LUCK!!
and thanks for the great book Rodney. I was able to visit a few locations in the book and found some great stuff

Yep , that would be me that sells the " take a hike " book . One that is many times better is the "mineral localities revealed" that I sell . Thanks for the compliment and I am glad that you enjoyed the book. Ebay can be really tough , in dealing with people . But some months sales are great , and the flexibility allows me to travel and hunt rocks and not worry about trying to get vacation time from work . Getting up in the mornings as early or as late as I want to is nice as well . The bottom line though is that I have to get the work done one way or another . I take , edit, & upload about 800 pictures per month , and make about 200 individual listing per month ( in addition to the regular store items ) . Ebay also allows me to have what I call a " rotating collection " of rocks , minerals , fossils , etc . I only deal in things that I think are neat and personally like . I am never sad to see something nice go , because I know I will just get something to replace it to keep for a short while.

I have sold about 50 cabs on ebay. The fees can add up quite fast with multiple listings. I could easily spend $20 or more for a weeks worth of cab listings. I have been thinking of an ebay store to lower my listing costs. Is a store a better business model when you have a lot of stuff to list?

I have an ebay store. I have about 35 items in it right now. All of them are in the "Buy it now" format, not regular auctions. On the plus side, the listing fees are much less. My items are on a 30 day listing and renew unless sold or canceled. There are a lot of things you can do with a "store" that are not available otherwise. On the down side, there is a monthly fee for the store which starts at about $15.00 per month. The fee when sold is higher so you don't really save much over what you are doing now, just delaying some of the fees till the item sells. Hopes this helps.

Yup you'd better make sure it is Packaged Well!!!!!!! I worked for the USPS for about 6 yrs. as a Mailhandler (loading and unloading semi trailers.) A slab at the bottom of a 70 lb. bag of mail won't stand a chance if not WELL Packed. USPS does not even think about anything breakable being in the regular bags. Express Mail or Priority Mail is treated a good bit better but even it gets tossed around a bit. The mail HAS to move and there is no way to move it all without tossing it around. Just my 2 cents on shipping from a "been there done that" perspective.

I have been thinking of an ebay store to lower my listing costs. Is a store a better business model when you have a lot of stuff to list? As of today , a store is the way to go . Rumour has it that they are going to phase out the stores , and that is probably correct . You will want to use a photo hosting company instead of paying ebay money for extra pictures ( remember PICTURES sell the items and you want several large good pictures ) . My listings fees are usually $800 a month . Last month I only paid $378 because my sales dropped to one third of normal. Ebay has been terrible the last few months with all the changes they have been doing .

I stopped selling on eBay because of the prices. I now sell just on Etsy which is WAY more reasonable, but everything you sell needs to be hand-made, not commercially made. It might be an option to look into a shop there.

I've sent hundreds of slabs in flat rate envelopes and never had one break ... but they're sandwiched in cardboard.
