My wife and I took a little trip today and on the way home we stopped to see if we could find some Teton Jade. One of the locals who has tiled his whole bathroom in this stuff told us that we could find it laying on the ground up Bitch Creek. We got some general directions from him and headed out to see if we could find some pieces. We got to the bridge he told us to check under, and then we immediately understood that the name of the place had something to do with how hard it was going to be to get material out of this hole. A little closer view, the yellow speck, in the bushes down by the water, is my wife Right off the bat I found 2 real nice pieces imbedded in the bank, it took some digging but they did finally come out. This was the first backpack load up the hill. The second backpack load up the hill, plus a bucket my wife lugged up the hill, by the time she got to the top, she very firmly told me that buckets are not a very good idea here!! This one is not Jade, but it has some peculiar markings on it, and I just had to give it a home, the thing weighs almost 100 lbs! I am curious to see if the markings go all the way through. I think this is some kind of quartzite. The bucket my wife drug up the hill, she is quite the trooper!! Closeups of a couple pieces taken with a crappy camera for closeups We left a little pile of it down at the bottom that would not fit in the last backpack load if anyone wants it I will give you directions!! There was some snow patches on the trail going down in, and it got pretty rough going coming back out with a load on and slipping around in the snow, so we thought 2 loads was enough. Might be one of the last collecting trips of the year, still good considering how late it is. Thanks for looking..................Tony

It looks like a challenging field trip but well rewarded. Have you ever noticed that all good rocks are always downhill from where you are? I don't think I have ever found any up the hill. Bob

What a nice day and a beautiful view there...That walk up and down looks really tricky! You brought a lot out for how steep it looks so that was a really nice haul. I am curious also of the Quartzite. I am wondering what it will look like inside. Can't wait to see when you find out. Fran

You're an Animal Tony...your Wife as well! ;D Those are some huge boulders to be climbing back up that sticky, slippery, muddy steep hill! I've read about the JAde up Bitch Creek...but never even been up that way to search. By the looks of it....you found some nice stuff. That big one in the 1st pic looks really nice. Thanks for sharing the experience. It does look COLD! Steve

You and your wife are brave persons, WTG! Impressive capture, it seems your saws won't stay a second from now on (not that I worried they would) I like that brown one too. Adrian

You took beautiful pics of the landscape but looking at that bucket, I can't imagine hauling it up. Of course, when you have stuff like that in it, it probably caused the adrenalain to flow which increased the strength needed to bring them up. Or maybe it is just sheer determination! Which ever, you certainly brought home some sweet rocks.

I've seen Tony and his backpack in action near Delta, Utah this last spring. Believe me people, this is NOT an unusual load for him. You should see some of the boulders he packs out in that thing! ;D Great haul Tony.

Wow, the material looks really good. I was wondering about the big round rock. It maybe markings made by chinnese workers who helped build the railroad. I lot of these workers worked around the area. catmandewe, I thought I was the only crazy to hunt in the snow and cold. Went up into Tennessee last week and the temp was down at 12 degrees with the wind blowing. I said I would never do it again years ago............ but I did. My wife and I collected geodes and crinoid stems. We had a good time, just cold. Take Care Still Digging in the Dirt, Frank (GaRock)

What a nice trip to do with your wife. Is this where the piece I adopted from you came from?

I cut one of the smaller pieces today, it is some form of jade, but darker than I supposed it would be. The biggest piece has blue and green in it, I can't wait to get that one cut, but it is going to have to wait until I get one of the bigger saws running. Some of you guys crack me up!!!! Bobby, I have found rocks uphill before, but I quit looking uphill after this happened, (was a nice rental car, too) Roxy, you and your tow rope, hahaha!! Curt, we did have a paddle but it would not fit in the pack on the way back up! lol Nancy, I will try to get pics of the bathroom next time we are up that way. Hey Roger, you are going to give me a big ego!! Frank, that might explain it, when I get the big saw going I am going to cut it open and see if they go all the way through or not. If not I will have a big flat on one side yard rock, if it is something cool it will become something cooler! Geoff, yes this is where your rock came from. Thanks everyone, it is good to have friends to joke around with! Tony

So tapatalk says you can upload as many unlimited photos as you want, now to do so you need to subscribe. That said I just revived my box of goodies from tony and because I can not post any photos yet I am over my limit for free photos. So I did a search for green minerals from Idaho and found this thread after searching other photos of green jade. Guess who I found digging at bitch creek yup the guy who sold me the stuff I can’t post yet. I have a at lest 5 or 6 pounder of a light to medium green that I have found listed as jade I also have some that I have not cleaned yet and it was very dark green in color among other tastey little morsels with sweet banding. I couldn’t resist tagging this post I need to start cleaning and cutting very soon and will post pics to see if I in deed get some bitch creek jade Thank you again tony I will let you know what I did find after I cut & polish a few pieces of the green material. I’ll say it a again that’s some nice looking stuff!!!! Yup sure is knave by the way I am no longer jonesing for my rocks
