I am so glad I found this group. So much information, on a variety of aspects. I was wondering about using sterling silver wire. I want to base all my jewelry making with silver, but I have no idea how it will be to work with.

Thank you for this Randy, It's things like this which give a different perspective on ways to do things that got me interested in wrapping in the first place,, and seeing the differences between you & others here has taught me a lot.... I just finished printing this out to add to my binder of Wire Wrapping and it will go right along side Telas Tutorial so I now have to excellent sources of information to reference when I need it!!! Kudos to you bro!!!!

Oh cool, I've done lots of wraps but was never sure how to get those flamboyant loops, looks like you've got a good way to make them behave, I'll have to give this a shot next time I wander back to a style this will work with, thanks!

From someone self-taught whose taste has now evolved to wish I could absorb all the wire-weaving and wrapping and related knowledge in one gulp (not to mention having the $$ for the wire to do that!) -- your tutorial is a joy -- beautiful, just the right amount of simple/complex design -- stands out artistically, and both easy to understand and fun to read. Thank you for sharing.

I would like to make suggestion. Round wire can be rather difficult to control when making bindings. I would recommend 20 gauge half round instead. Other than that, Randy gave a great tutorial. I know this is true, but I was so excited he used round wire -- I *have* round wire! No half-round, nor any money to purchase any at the moment, so it's nice to find a tut that lets me use what I have...

Thank you, Karen -- this leads me to another question, though. Most of my wire is plated-over-copper/craft wire (although I did just bite the bullet recently and bought some sterling when prices dipped). Lots of round in many gauges and lots of 18 gauge square and a couple 16 gauge square. Anyway, I'm afraid to hammer any plated wire, for obvious reasons. Do you (or does anyone) have any suggestions for some way of...I don't know...jerry-rigging the hammering of plated wire (I mean, I know I sound stupid--obviously it would involve using a much lighter touch, but I'm wondering if it can even be done at all)? Oh, and I also am spending *way* too much on rocks...and now on wire, too. I'm about to go look at THREE packages that just arrived. I'm trying to feel guilty...

Sorry Sarah - didn't see your question till now. Don't hammer enameled craft wire at all - it will crack the coating! The exception might be silver or gold colored copper if the metal itself is colored all the way through and not just plated. My favorite wire comes from the hardware store. I buy a foot or two of thick trunk wire for just a couple bucks and peel the plastic off. Inside is a bunch of pure soft copper wires in lots of different sizes! You can hammer the round wire to make flat binding wire. You might have to anneal it to get it soft again. I use a cast iron skillet on the BBQ so I don't stink up the kitchen

This is a great tutorial! Pictures are so good that even I understand what is going on. Going to try this wire wrapping again. Maybe I can get the hang of it. Thanks for the tutorial!
