My first was the Burro Creek field trip, and I just got back from visiting my boyfriend in Phoenix and we managed to get out of town once and I got to introduce him to my passion for rocks! Thanks to Beef, who gave me directions for a place to look, we took off. ;D He's not into rocks, but was a good sport! He wasn't too sure about dirt roads in his 2wd truck, and lack of cell phone coverage in case we broke down, and being in the middle of nowhere but we found the place, and I spent a happy hour looking in a wash for rocks!! Of course, I could have easily spent all day, but being his first time, I only had him drop 2 or 3 hints before I agreed we should head back... I never found Beef's Oreo Blizzard agate, since I don't have the 'eyes' you pro's do! But I found this one 7 lb'r that I was really happy to find!! another view: And a pic of, hopefully, my future rockhound, in front of the wash we walked down, north of Phoenix. He's a keeper too! A Master Diver, I've already gotten him to verbally agree to dive for jade for me after he moves here to CA in about a year! ;D

"He wasn't too sure about dirt roads in his 2wd truck, and lack of cell phone coverage in case we broke down, and being in the middle of nowhere"
Welcome To My World! ;D My angle is ... just bring WAY too much food and water, enough to last at least a week. If your vehicle breaks down and you have to wait for rescue, then that's just rockhounding time that was "meant to be".
Any time you're way out in the wilderness and your vehicle breaks down, stay with the vehicle or reasonably close-by. It's MUCH easier for rescuers to find a vehicle than a person.
For only hounding an hour (?), I think you did well. That gorgeous 7-pounder will make a LOT of nice cabs or a great tumbling batch. A few more little hounding expeditions and he'll be hooked!

Isn't my rock too cool!?? (and the dude is too, Roxy!! You'll have to trust us on this, Rogue! ) We weren't really in the middle of nowhere, it just felt like it from a non-rock hounder's experience that hasn't been out with some of our very own RTH'rs!! We could have walked about an hour and been at the freeway! Um, Michaeljohn? Your world is called 'extreme rockhunting'!! I don't know if I'll ever get there! lol. I need to make him something from that rock, and maybe that'll help too!

That's a beautiful rock!! Only one hour? Next time you need to take a six pack of beer, TV, satellite dish, and a power inverter. Go on "Superbowl Sunday". ;D

After finding that rock, I don't know how you pried yourself away. Seems like you were the "Good Sport" lol. Well seems a wise choice don't push too hard too soon.
But your find, both man and rock, is awesome.

I'm hoping many, many more rockhunts in your near future Dee~! I like your type of rockhounding Michael. I need to try that out one of these times. Great hunk of rock you found Dee. Tell your BF that you need to go on a weekend excursion next time. Get rid of the water bottles and get a camel back. You need to have a rockhammer in one hand and a rock in the other. Steve

Steve, I think most people who are making a living at it, or are trying to at least make a decent side-income with it, pretty much approach it the same way. Even though you're having fun, you have to kick some butt in order to "produce" ... but that in itself is part of the fun LOL. Besides, at 48 years old, I don't kick quite as much butt as I used to.

DEE: WTG- THe rock is beautiful, handsome dude---- who appears willing and able to carry your rocks (that's important), and willing to dive for jade for you? That sounds like keeper material. Its all about compromise and letting them think they are getting their way, he will be begging to rockhound again soon!!!! Hope you had a Merry Christmas!! Amber

Michale, I guess i need to take my rockhounding more seriously than. I'd much rather be playing with rocks than working with sheet metal!

Hey Dee, Nice trip report. Waaaay cool rock you found, too. I understand you are breaking him in slow, so how much longer before you give him that 9,000 cubic inch freighter backpack to pack rocks with? Wanna go to Burro Creek next week? I will meet you there.
Happy New Year...................Tony

Oh man, sitnwrap, it WAS hard not to just keep walking and looking for rock!! I may have to get tips from Bejewelme! I very much hope I'll have a lot more rock hounding trips in my future, Steve! Haha, Tony, I told him about you packing out a boulder, and the size of your saws!! I still expect to come back here, and see that you, Rodney, and Dave finally made it back to that blue bouldar of agate at Burro Creek, and brought that baby back! We kind of daydreamed a bit in the future, and having our own ATV and two-way radios, and we pretty much figured out he could drop me off at a spot to look for rocks, and he can go off and ride around, then come back for me and my pile of rocks!! Sounded good to me.

Sounds like a fun trip, albeit too short. That rock you found is killer! No comment on the man or how to keep him, I leave that up to experts like a certain someone here.

Dee, have you dropped the hint that you want a Quad for your birthday to him yet? This is a GOOD time to buy used Quads CHEAP! How big is the blue boulder at Burro Creek, and how far does it need to be moved? Could it be busted-up with a BFH without ruining it, or is it too big for that?

I have no idea what a BFH is, but it's the size of a small burro in my mind! Naw, it's a marker now! 'STOP' Pretty rocks here! I would LOVE a quad and a trailer to put it on! Rodney and Jamie totally hooked me on how much fun those are!! Won't be for a while though. First for me is a 15" Covington, and a place set up here to put my saws and stuff! Too many wants... Mel, nothing beats walking around looking for treasure in the desert as a date!! Be still my heart! I'm quite fond of both hunks, Karen! And Tony, I hope Bejewelme is available for consultations, lol!
