Howdy folks, These were some of the last specimens I unpacked after my Texas move and darned if the fancier one wasn't the only specimen that got a bit damaged in the move. Got these geodes at Quartzite from the miner several years ago. He said he dug them behind his trailer park at Brenda, Arizona where only lot holders were allowed to dig. They're really quite unusual as each geode from that location is filed with beautiful rosettes of very thin quartz crystals most of which were amethyst and often scepters too. Never seen anything quite like the in the geode world and really wish I'd gotten more. These are both about softball sized and he had some as large as 8 inches or so. Here are a couple of pics. The larger, purpler one lost a bunch of rosettes in the move and or course, the pale one was totally undamaged. Isn't that just the way it always goes *sigh*. Thanks for lookin....Mel

Nice geodes Mel. Those are really pretty and quite unique, too bad about the damage but they still look good.

I just love to see geodes! You never know what gift you will be given until they are cut open. I love those fine crystals. Very delicate too! Fran

Those are wonderful pics. I love seeing the crystals inside. I'm looking at the second pic and there is a crystal at about the 4:00 position. It's very clear in the pic and looks atypical in formation for quartz. Am I correct with this? I even looked at it through my loupe but the pixels get in the way. lol.

sitnwrap: You are correct. Lots of the thin crystals in those geodes are either scepters where the tip is an after growth and larger than the original crystal or kind of a reverse scepter where the tip is another crystal growth on top the original that is smaller in diameter than the original....Mel

Thanks Mel for the info. The crystal that caught my attention has the form of the latter, Growth on top of the original that is small in diameter. really a neat crystal.
