Howdy folks, Petrified wood is one of those materials I can almost never make myself saw up. Just too darn neat as you find them in their natural form. Here are a couple of my favorites: An opalized cypress knee from SW Louisiana. Couldn't stand to saw it so I just ground off and polished the end of the knee:  A little east Texas pet wood stump with spooky eyes knots:

The cypress knee really looks neat! I am afraid I would throw that second one on a fire and wonder why it wouldn't burn...It is spooky with the eyes in it! Fran

Nice Wood Mel. I think I would have walked right over that 1st one. It sure doesn't look like Wood on the outside..but what a beautiful PIECE it is! I'm with Fran on the other. Some of the Woods being posted look like regular old fire wood. Steve

I love it when a good piece of wood looks like you'd want to throw it right on the campfire like your 2nd piece.
My mother in law found a piece of Colorado River Petrified "Iron Wood" that weighs near 40 pounds like that.
