in another thread, there was an interest to see my purple passion agate. i posted there, but will also post here, as it deserves its own thread. i call it purple passion, since the colors are intense. the deepest darkest purples, to light pink and white and the whole range inbetween. amethist druzy quartz and chalcedony of various hues. i'll get better at my photos. keep in mind, i've only been loading photos into a computer since tuesday!!!! 2 pics of purple passion rough. from southwest jefferson county, missouri. yes, i took them in bad lighting (and i suck). chalcedony of various purples and pinks. the dark purple is micro amethist crystals. i'm keeping this one as a specimin. it shows the formation of the bands nicely, as it shows what each band is, in various areas where chalcedony has flaked off, showing what was underneath. bands and larger amethist crystals. i'll likely keep this as is too.

I was one of those who showed an interest. Keep at the pic taking cause it gets easier as you practice. What kind of camera do you have?

my camera is a vivitar vivicam 3625. crappy old thing!!!! 2.1 mega pixels. for what that's worth. manual is lllllllllooooooooooonnnnnnnnnggggggggggg gone, so it's just sort of playing around with the settings, 'til i find what works. since some of the photos i've posted have been better, it very well could be me. maybe i am moving as i take the shot, just a wee bit. time will tell!!!

I was just wondering. I got my camera this past summer and am still finding features on it that I didn't know it had . I still have days when it takes fifty shots to get one decent pic. Just keep at it.

Hi navi! I did a little searching for your camera. I found the manual here: www.retrevo.com/support/Vivitar-3625-Digital-Cameras-manual/id/200dj793/t/2/Click on "view all" in the table of contents. You want your camera on the macro setting. The switch under the lens with the flower symbol. It looks like it has to be 12"- 30" away to be in focus in the macro mode. 27" to infinity out of the macro mode. Change your white point to please your eye. Turn off flash and light it naturally. Hope that helps!

Yes, follow those instructions to use the macro setting. That will often turn off the flash so make sure the area is well lit. And then post some more photos! Taking good pictures of rocks is quite difficult, so try again and don't despair!

Hi Navi,
Looking forward to seeing the tumbling ones because these stones are really interesting. The colours are fantastic, I love purple stones, and the mixture between the crystaly looking stuff and the bandy areas is great! It's going to be fun to see how they come out, thanks for posting the piccys!
Cheers,
Sparkles.
