Didn't know where to post these........... I was beach combing in Lincoln City,OR and found these washed up on the beach(about 50 feet from shoreline)... They said these are "sea lion" tusks......We looked for the skeleton, but never found it(maybe buried with sand?) Took a year to clean them, they stunk to high heaven!!(ha ha)Took some sand home with me and buried them in it for 10 months,it did the trick... I would like to get some crimshaw work done on them and display them.........

Wow! Those are really pretty. Look like teeth from some kind of toothed whale though. Sea lion canine teeth have a prominent root with the tooth sitting scepter-like on top and they're more arrowhead shaped. Those conical teeth are more common in whales....Mel

The shape and curvature could certainly be a sea lion, the size is about right and the even the dark coloring present is kind of typical. It may be that the root is broken off a bit and that is what is throwing me. Pinniped teeth do have a big single root but usually it is somewhat pointed on the bottom and yours are more truncated. Not a sea lion guy so I may very well be mistaken....Mel
