Besides the occasional misc. one that I just cant resist, I have narrowed my collection down to Barite, Arizona Vanadinite and Gypsum/Selenite. The Barites: If I could only keep just one specimen, this would be it. Blue Barite from Hartsel, Colorado. I love all the little stepped faces on it. Boldut Mine, Romania Barite on quartz/pyrite, Huaron Mines, Peru La Union, Spain Barite "rose", Oklahoma Another one of my favorites....this is Wulfenite & Mimetite on Barite. It is a small specimen, maybe an inch or so big...so to the naked eye, the little yellow mimetite "flowers" are difficult to see. Thats why I love macro photography! And my loupe (ehem, Randy ) GYPSUM/SELENITE Ram's Horn. Naica, Mexico. This one is just too cool. I love this one, it is water clear. Naica, Mexico This is a nice big solid one. Naica, Mexico as well. From Australia...my kids call this the french fry Chrysocolla in Selenite. Lily Mine, Peru My most fragile specimen, you just look at it wrong and it will drop a piece of itself. Chalcanthite on Gypsum, Buena Vista Mine, Arizona Gypsum rose, Mexico Although the Moroccan Vanadinites are showier, I prefer the tiny crystals on the Arizona specimens so I have made it a goal to get them from as many different mines as possible. They also come in more colors than red, as you will see. VANADINITE Ramsey Mine, Arizona Old Yuma Mine, Arizona Puzzler Mine, Arizona Rowley Mine, Arizona Cant remember which mine on this one...Arizona somewhere Ive got more but figured this was enough for now. Thanks for lookin! Shannon

I'm sure alot of cameras have the fancy settings, but you know how to use them. Those pics are crystal clear and show the really cool details of the specimens. I gotta know, what camera do you have?

Great specimens, Shannon! I like the name your daughters gave to those "french fries". Glad to see you have a specimen from Northen Romania. That area is very rich in minerals and mines.

Splendid Mineral collection Shannon! My favorite has to be the Wulfenite/mimetite(sp) one. Those little exploding flowers are really incredible. Steve

Barites and selenite are are just plain cool. The Vanadinite is outstanding. I gave one of the ones you sent me to my grandson. You would have thought I gave him a gold mine! Curt

Minerals "by themselves" are so amazing. Even more varied I think than "just rocks" (meaning my fav mineral: crypto-crystaline quartz, I hope I got that right ).

Shannon, you must have a blast looking at these with you loupe. I'm having a blast just looking at them through my screen. I don't have a favorite when it comes to crystals. ;D
Thanks for sharing this awesome collection.

NICE!!! how'd you narrow it down to just those minerals? due to space, i don't even have many minerals out. i want to get a case to display some. i'm thinking of narrowing it down to mostly calcite (and specimins with calcite), wavelite (i have some awesome wavelite) and galena. but who knows.

You know, I dont really remember how I narrowed it down...I just had a lot of misc. minerals and gave those all to my daughters, except for those 3, I guess I just decided they were my favorite. If I were to add another mineral to my collection it would be Wulfenite. really nice ones are so expensive though.
I only have one wavelite specimen. I was digging in a large pile of rough at a rock shop in California and at the very bottom was this wavelite specimen. The guy that worked at the shop was surprised but he said every now and then people would find odd things in the piles.

Sweet! I can't choose between the Wulfenite and Chalcanthite...
I've never thought much of mineral collections, but this makes me reconsider.
