...Are you a rock licker like I am? Me too, me too! I'm so glad I didn't find a cinaber so far, apparently. The best proof I didn't is that I'm typing this ;D Very cool rock, and very special for you for sure, being your first one you picked. Adrian

I dont know about you Adrian but Ive tried spray bottles and Ive tried spitting on them........nothing works as well as actually licking the rock. You guys can tell me all about contaminants and all of the gross things on them but it doesnt matter. Im a rock licker for life.
One of my highlights was having both of my daughters lick a "pretty" slab that I had. Afterwards, I told them it was coprolite. LOL It didnt matter to them that it was now a rock, they both ran off to brush their teeth .

I'm a rock licker as well. People look at me quite strange when I do it. Even with my slabs that are probably cleaner than the can of soda I am drinking.

Just wait until you lick some of the metal ores..............you taste them for hours. BTW, licking cinnabar is far less hazardous then letting it get hot. You really do not want to breathe any mercury vapours. A good lick of of antimony ore has the effect of the fastest laxitive on earth. Woody

That is a great first find! I think my first rock was a piece of quartzite....
Good thing Roxy hasn't posted here yet. I can see where this thread is going.
I prefer spit or a water bottle because there's often a lot of mud on the local rocks.

Well, with a first find like that, you must be hooked now. You know it only takes one time I don't lick rocks but I sniff them. I thought that sniffing them is safe but from what Jason said about Cinnabar, it may be more dangerous.

At first I thought this can't be real, must be painted but how'd it get way out there in nowhere land/ I soon realized it was real, not painted but had no clue at all what it could have been. I did not lick it but I sure loved on that thing, carressing it for days before my research turned up Cinnabar. I still do pet it but I wash my hands after. I do lick some rocks if they aren't too muddy. I am off in a few to try to find Graveyard Point. Supposed to be good stuff out there. I'm not finding any really good directions but if I get close I should find some decent rocks. Have a "rockin" day! Nancy

Chuck,
Yeah, that can be a problem. There have been times that I licked a rock that I THOUGHT was pretty clean, only to get a mouthful of grit and mud. Some dont taste as good as others but I cant help myself. As soon as I pick one up, I must lick it.
Oh, and for those that get rocks from me, I DO wash them before I send them. LOL

Yummy, rocks are tasty! I lick my slabs as I am figuring out how I want to cut cabs out them.
The cinnabar looks nice. Is it suitable for cutting since there are health risks with it or is it just a nice specimen?
