Here is a piece of Stony Creek Jasper that I collected many years ago near Black Butte Reservoir in Northern California. Bob

Beautiful! The colors are like poppy jasper, the brecciated patterns remind me the Stone Canyon jasper. Very nice mutant Adrian

Beautiful example. I used to deer hunt near there with my dad and of course, I'd be off filling my pockets with rocks instead of beating the brush for him like I was supposed to *L*.....Mel

Thats a beauty Bob!
Ack! Mel, I still do that when hunting. Its why I never fill my tag. If only the deer were crawling on the ground below my feet then I wouldnt have that issue. I have lots of pockets in my waterproof hunting clothes. The ones that arent filled with rocks are filled with chanterelles LOL

Very nice! most of what I've seen and collected from there is considerably darker and less vivid, that is a really sweet piece!

Very nice slab! I like the reds which I haven't seen in that rock. The stuff I've seen is mostly darker as Pete describes. Steve

I occasionally have found something like that in New Mexico: very metallic copper color splotches with veins of clear or dark like lightning through it. What accounts for such interesting patterns?

Franzi, short answer as I understand it: healed fractures. I don't have enough technical knowledge to give a detailed answer though.
