Yesterday, Mossyrockhound, and I went off to where Chasfire found the pretty blue agate to see if we could find some. We had a beautiful sunny day with a wee bit of snow still down for our mountain bike ride to the creek, then a nice fossick up the creek in pursuit of the illusive blue agate. My find of blue whilst 'blue' is not actually very blue, but, I also found a piece of carnelian agate that is so dark, as to appear black. One can only see the red through the edge whilst backlit. All in all the day was not very productive in material, but we did have a great day out. Here are photographs. The first is the rough, and the second is the blue piece polished. Woody Black and blue agate Blue polished. Here is what the creek the blue came from looks like.

That blue is really pretty. I'm interested to see that huge carnelian cut. Do you think its that dark all the way through?

That polished blue reminds me of the blue you see in ice that has frozen while dripping from rocks. That is really pretty.
Maybe it's my monitor but I can see a red vein going up the middle of the dark part. I bet killer slabs are going to come out of that rock.

Even though you may not have found a lot of stuff, it looks like you had some beautiful scenery and great company so the day was a real success! I am looking forward to seeing that big piece cut up. It looks so promising! Fran
