Howdy folks, *LOL* Boy, I wish I'd find me a real honest to goodness Clovis paleo point but I made this one with the new set of knapping tools our member, Harley (agatemaggot) sent me. I decided to go real primitive so this one is all percussion flaked with the small copper bopper he sent. Man that is a fun tool and fast too. This point took me about 20 minutes and is of Pedernales chert and about 3 3/4inches long. have to admit this was my second effort after watching a U tube percussion flaking video Harley also sent me the link to. The first effort was a long spear point out of a beautiful hunk pf black flint but, typically, I had one lump I couldn't get rid of and broke the point trying to flake those final touches. If you haven't tried it, percussion flaking is way more fun and less work than pressure flaking hard stones. Anyway, here are a couple of pics. Thanks for looking....Mel

Mel, Ya done good ! It's one of two things, your hand / eye coordination is a lot better than mine, or, you washed that point real well before taking the pictures. I looked VERY close and couldn't detect one tiny bit of blood spatter anywhere on it . I don't wear gloves and some of my points , when finished , appear to have been used on several different KILLS Harley A.K.A. leaks-a-lot

*L* No blood loss Harley. Wore my chain saw chaps of kevlar and a glove on my left hand. Only injury was to the ears of the deers outside my shop when I broke my first point in half and cussed a blue streak. Tried pressure flaking first and I sure can't throw a decent flake off this hard flint! Way tougher than obsidian!. You must have some freaking strong hands. Haven't got the hang of that Ishi stick yet. I'm gonna have to go back to the videos...Mel

Great job Mel. I just got some stuff from Harley today. He sure has been busy getting us all knapping. Still want to see some of his points though, I have heard they are great.
