On Sunday morning Amber and I decided to take a walk and do some rock hounding. Rock and Gem magazine had done an article on collecting specimens in the metamorphic rock at a creek about 15 minutes from her house. When we got to the parking lot we instantly realized we had a problem, no bridge across the creek. Well that isn't totally true, there was no conventional bridge but two cables were strung across the creek. Amber was a bit intimidated at first and considered wading across. That wasn't an option since the water was at least a foot deep and we just had on shoes. Well Amber plucked up her courage and shimmied across the bridge like a champ. Here's a picture showing the wires we crossed. Across the bridge walking was easy as it was on an old road bed. It was a nice walk albeit a bit chilly. The temp was 45 and it rained on us but we weren't to be dismayed. I had forgotten to bring the magazine article so I wasn't sure how far it was until we would get to the collecting site. We were walking along a very large quarry and we wanted to get a closer look so we climbed a bank to find railroad tracks running along the quarry. Almost immediately we found some interesting rocks. The rail bed had been laid with rocks out of the quarry. I'm terrible with identifying rocks so I really don't know what everything is. Most of the rocks looked like dark granite. Here is a piece that had some interesting crystals on its faces. The main mineral at the site is prehnite. I think this is a piece that must have formed in a vug as its got perfect druzy type crystals. At one spot and one spot only we found these fibrous type crystals. We found we could get back to the car via the railroad tracks. I figure we hauled out about 20 pounds worth of rock. Here's most the haul. Some closer pics. I'm going to throw some of this into the tumbler and see what happens and of course some will get a trip to the grinder. We had a good time and plan to go back again soon.

Steve: I looked at that wire and thought no way!!! It was raining, I stood up on it and it was all shakey and I thought I can't do this, and then something just made me want to do it, and it was an awesome feeling to get across. It took forever, that wire was maybe 20 -30 yards, but it seemed like a mile!!! Tony was very supportive, he kept saying you are 1/3 there, 1/2 way there!!! LOL I was glad I did it!!! The feeling after was worth it!! Then we found a way back down, so I didn't have to cross it again!!! He took a pic when we were leaving of me standing on it, but I am soaking wet, no makeup, it is really scary!!!! I told him he is in big trouble if he posts it!!!!

Jo I suggested to Amber that we do the 1 1/2 mile "hike" through the tree tops that they have at Spring Mount ski area. Its an aerial walkway high up in the tress made up of swings and wire bridges and such. She just gave me that look that says your crazy and didn't say another word. lol She did a great job on that bridge though.

I know for sure but I figured we could follow them and suggested it to her but she had already made up her mind to try. There was no hesitation after that, she got on and shimmied across. Of course I was gung ho for it and was one of the best parts of the hike. There were two huge palomino trout sitting in a pool in the stream and I got a good look at them. Trout season opens Saturday and they will make a nice meal for someone.

YOU GO GIRL! I seen that high wire and you did a hella good job cuz my luck I would of been hanging upside down or prolly drowned in that 3 ft creek or whatever and I dunno just wouldn't of been able to be graceful about it at all.. so hats down girl , girl scouts aint got nothing on you! lol
Great finds too!
