I can't really appreciate the irridescence from the photos. Irridescence is the one thing about the material that that really doesn't sound jade-like. Maybe if the material could be pulverized and the dark inclusions separated out to demonstrate their magnetism? Could the irridescence be a fire agate like effect from hematitie films in the stone? Non iron colorants that are magnetic and form green compounds include nickel but not chromium. Could this material be a serpentine-like rock with magnetite inclusions? Interesting stuff. Mark H.

Agreed, irridescence is not a typical jade property, but I have seen it to some degrees in snowflake jade with mica inclusions, I also have some emerald jade that has a lot of iron impurities in it that has a somewhat irridecent appearence....I would guess the irridecene would be due to the magnetite maybe?

Hey Mike..wait til you see this one...looks even more like jade to me...here is rock..oh by the way...this is not magnetic and here is a slab from it...the exterior looks greenish blueish to me...the interior is blackish with some green...so the exterior is like a rind, extending in all the way around the edge...then it changes...like a lot of jades.....Rich

Mike..I really enjoyed the pics of your jade...this last stone I showed with the slab from it....when I put a light behind the pieces I just cabbed...it looks very much like your miracle mile emerald jade...I cut thick slabs to work..I will have to cut a thin one...to show it to you...thanks for adding the link to your post...I think I remember seeing it originally...do you collect any of it...I know it is hard to find...lord knows i spent countless hundreds of hours out there looking...I kind of laugh when people ask me to show them where to find jade...they think they are going to go just pick it up...I'll say walk this section of this creek.....about 20 times...maybe you will find one piece...it is rare to find good stuff...but then again..for me..it is all about the hunt..the search is what excites me...Rich

Rich, sorry to go off-topic on you (LOVE the new material!), but I was wondering if you've had a chance to mine any of your Rhodonite yet this year.

Rich....yeah, I do all my own collecting...most of the pieces in that thread I found myself, except the edwards black jade, that one came from my father's collection, I'm not sure where he got that one. The area that the edwards jade was mined hasn't been open for many years now....

Hi, I’m wondering if anyone can identify this for me: Not without a photo. And, this is a thread from 2009. It's probably best that you start a new thread in the appropriate area and go from there.
