Well I thought I would go all out and see if I could make one from some Savanna river chert I got from colorshapetexture. I went old school on it and had it cooking in the sand under my fire pit all day yesterday. This is my first point with anything other than obsidian and all I have to say is those old time Indians must have been tough. My arms feel like jello. I couldn't get the notches as deep as I would have liked (just not strong enough ) . Anyhow here it is.

Wow that came out pretty darn nice! I know what you mean about the old timers. I've been working the unheattreated flint I find around here and man it's hard to throw off flakes of any size when pressure flaking. Harley told me the secret to good notching is the Ishi stick combined with making the thinnest part of the spall the base of the point and using the thickest end to form the tip. Seems to work way better but it still ain't obsidian *L*......Mel

Very nice point. Looks like a point that is actually found at this collecting spot. I go and collect at this location and have found many artifacts. The best was a spearpoint. The location is about a mile or so off the Savanah River on a dirt road that the county scraps several times a year and always turns up new material and sometimes aritifacts. the spearpoint I found was in the sand that had collected in the middle of the dirt road. It made my day and it was an extremely lucky find that the spearpoint had not been damaged by cars and the tractors going down this road all these years. According to an archealogist, the point had been heat treated. Thanks for Sharing !! Frank (GaRock)
