Now that I have finished my first vibe batch and the other two barrels (Lortone) are like watching paint dry ... I am getting back to something I really do love ... still learning ... but I really do love it!!! Here is my latest attempt. I took one of the mexican lace agates cab(s) I did in the vibe, took 3 strands half round/half hard silver, twisted the middle strand (love those twisted!!!!) and dammit all to hell ..... why can't I get the dam bail!!!! I also have one other issue ... so far ... the cabs I have done are wafer thin ... can this create a problem? Help!!!! As always ... Julie

Oh ya .... and one other thing ... I got so excited about getting back to wrapping, I did the wraps and cut and pinched them on the outside of wrap, not the inside where they cannot be seen.
As always

Very nice wrap for a very nice lace! Don't drop it if it is thin...or let it swing on it's chain and slam into something. T

Yea for you Julie. That looks great and the twisted wire reall compliments the stone which is gorgeous btw. I laughed when you cursed the bail. I don't curse, I just put it down for a while. I have a wrap that has been sitting for a couple of weeks because the bail would not cooperate. lol.
Looking forward to more of your wraps.

Julie... you could just try a couple of binds around the wires at the top to hold the stone and wires in place while you make the bail.... that's what I do about half the time... it makes for a " taller " bail, but it's alot easier to work with that way.... looks great so far by the way...

Julie, try this. After wrapping(don't need the wraps at top) have wires from both sides come together(and in order) and use sutures, wood clamp(recommended) or tape to hold together up toward the ends. Make a loop about 1 inch long Grasp with needle nosed pliers and wrap 2-3 times Tuck end between stone and wraps to hide it. Good luck. Ken

Oh yeah! Bend the 2 bail wires over in a loop and wrap over top of existing wraps. Then you can do whatever with the left over wires. Cut the bail wires off after wrapping as close to the wrap wires as you can. This is just ONE way of doing it.

Julie nice wrap, As for the ends of wrap wire being on the outside, well I do that when I am watching TV or talking while wrapping, the fix, just lift it up clip it on the inside and crimp back in place and no one knows but you. ;D You are doing a great job, each one you do will get easier. Donna

Shaping up nicely, Julie. Like how you coordinated your nail polish with the cab- nice touch.

Very nice job on the Lace Agate wrap.....have not done any wire wrapping but can sympathize with your frustration level. Agree on philosophy of setting it aside until your thoughts come to you. I have a box of unfinished cabs waiting for me.

Julie, In Rockmanken's pics, you may have noticed that he's holding his wires in place with a rheostat. I use that just about exclusively. You can get them without teeth, or file them off to a nice smooth finish (so you don't mark the wire).
Beautiful job btw, & that rock's to die for. Jo

Whoops, I called it a suture. It is a hemostat. They now throw them away at hospitals. If you know a nurse......

I was going to ask about the hemostat and its name. I think I have a medical supply place close.
The hemostat would really hold it in place so I can work with the bail. I will also remember to get the one without the teeth. I do not need anymore help with nicking the wires or stones.
Oh by the way ... what gauge wire is everyone using? I am wondering of the gauge is too small and therefore not as stiff when working with it.
The nail polish ... I did not even see that similarity. Hmmmm... maybe I will work with wrapping rocks around nail polish colors. ;D
Thanks guys ... all ...

Nice job Julie-don't fret-the Bail is the Bane of everyone's existence! I swear from wrap to wrap I never know for sure how mine will turn out!

Guess what kids!!!
I wanted to so badly finish that one last night (I have someone here on the board I want to send it to ;D ) that I tried a short cut. I clamped the two ends together with a small paper binder clip (do not try this at home) so I could start and hopefully finish the bail, that I completely screwed it up.
The silver twisted and the center strand tore in half. I have no idea how hard I was tugging or pulling.
Oh well ... I will try again tonight.
As always Julie

Julie, I was just at Home Depot a couple hours ago. I found some small alligator clamps, about 1.5" long and 1/2" wide, with smooth plastic-covered jaws, for something like a buck apiece. I bought 2 of them - they have quite strong springs. I'm thinking they might just work well for clamping these itty bitty 21-guage square wires. Should at least work better than my fat fingers! ;D
