Hello, everyone!
we are in Cameron, tomorrow we will head to Page and then to Utah to visit Brice canyon.
I'll attach some pics from the last days, because Tony and Tony covered so well the Moab days.
When we left Moab to Holbrook, it was quite a full day for us. Maybe the hardest one so far. 460 miles to drive and lots of places to visit.
Firstly we visited the Natural Bridges Park:
Some eye-candy for Earthdog:
The San Juan river goosenecks:
no, Ioana didn't jump though:
A few miles further, the balanced rock:
And then, the amazing Monument valley and the straight road leading to it:
Then, we made a detour to Canyon de Chelly, here is Ina admiring the Spider Rock...
... and some ruins - I still wander how they built it up there:
After such a long trip and so many objectives, there was no wander the night caught us on the road:
Some road works and the line caused by an accident helped this a bit more, maybe an hour or so.
And , finally, we arrived in Holbrook, at the Wigwam motel. There we met Jamie and Sheri (Desertdweller and Rockhobbit). Folks, we were SO tired but that meeting was the refreshment we needed after such a day. It really was the cherry on the cake. Sheri and Jamie brought us so many rock gifts, either from them or from other members whom I thank again here. It was really overwhelming!
The next morning we made a short rockhounding together and found some pet woods:
Then they left and we returned to Holbrook. Meeting them was a real pleasure, you girls rock, both of you!
In our way back to Holbrook we did what more than a member here advised us to do: visited the amazing rock shop of Jim Gray. I can tell you I was in Pet Wood Heaven. Pictures say better than I could:
My favorite super-market:
Of course I had to buy some pet wood and some other stuff from there. I still try to figure out how should I stuff the bigger piece in a flat rate box ;D
In the after noon we visited the Petrified Forest. Impressive richness of pet woods and colors, and the painted desert adds even more to the look:
The next morning, Ioana wanted to try some old cars parked in the wig-wam yard:
Then we hit the road again and in a couple of hours we reached at Cameron Trading Post.
Here we met Daniel - deb. Folks, if you think our vacation tour is high mileage, you should ask Daniel about his route! He beats me by far!
Meeting Daniel in person was a pleasure, his scientific approach in the rock hobby shows in person even more than on the board. We showed each other the cabs we've done and he showed me that big Stone canyon boulder:
I can tell you the car raised one inch when he got the rock out of the car It's colorful and solid.
I had the privilege of knowing in person his cat. And the next morning (today) we had breakfast together and then each of us left on his own way.
Glad to meet you in person Daniel, have a safe trip!
Well, our way lead us to the Grand Canyon. Grand is not enough said I think, seeing it in person is completely overwhelming. I felt like an ant, almost incapable to admire it as a whole thing. But by the time I get used and I found it so interesting and grandious. Here are some pics from there:
Just when we were about to leave, we saw that deer. In fact there was a line of cars, each of them slowing down or even stopping to take some pics of the deer:
That's all for now, thank you for looking, for the interest in our trip and for the patience in reading this post.
