Good article , but , they forgot to mention one important step in the process !
They forgot the beer !
You have to have something to do while the fire burns down !!!

LOL! I thought you might appreciate that article, Harley.
So, do you heat treat your materials?

Yahoo is weird - try groups.yahoo.com/group/Knappers-R-Us/files/ then scroll down to- heat temps.xls This will show the temps for various rocks...basically for knapping tools. It's an excel file. if you don't have MS Excel you can goto openoffice.org and download their free program that mimics MS office. NOT for dial-up people! Lee

Chuck,
I am getting ready to, I have a new high temp turkey roaster that goes to 600 degrees and 2 five gal. pails of Garnet sand to pack slabs and strips in while they cook ! Tony is making up a box of mixed slabs for me and I am getting my saw ready to slab a bunch of Montana Moss, lower heat there, and I have an assortment of goodies that all cook at 500 to 550 degrees so I can shoot for a mixed lot. I got my list of heat temps for the different materials from a man named Miller who is a Geologist in Wash. state I believe. The list is also available from the files at the Knappers -R -Us forum.

I sort of fixed the above link. Yahoo is weird sometimes.
