For that variety, I'd guess man-made.

I forgot to mention, I do beleive the colors of the stones have been chemically altered. I am finding some internet evidence that it is natural, just not in this wide a range of bright colors

Ahhhh. Yes, if the color has been altered, I'd believe it could be a natural stone - that is no longer completely natural...

I found it on another site, they say it is Varascite. If this is true, then the color has been altered and you are right it is not completely natural

Always have to watch out for the trade names.

Looks like it might come out of China so it's surely a treated stone. The fake everything from Samuri swords to Rainflower agate over there....Mel

The bead industry calls it impression jasper. I can guarantee you it is not an actual jasper, though. The color does go all the way through the colored parts, if that helps. And yes, it is very soft. Silver wire easily scratches it.

Definitely color enhanced. It is a real stone or at least some of it is- just a very pale tan-grey color ordinarily.

The spots resemble varicite but colors are not natural. If varacite it must have been low quality so treated and dyed. It could be a man made Chinese varicite as well. They make everything in every color. And if it is soft it isn't jasper. I saw an old guy wearing a varicite bola tie that was dark emerald green. It came out of an old collection when he started in the hobby.

Hmm, if it's soft and has those flowery shapes, it may be dyed magnesite or howlite both of which take dye well. Lots of both those from California. Maybe they're common in China too...Mel
