Petrified rock? Rocks are already really hard .... what makes it petrified?

Looks so cool! I was thinking at a fossil too when I saw it, but no clue, sorry.

Hey, Julie, I just now saw this thread. It looks to me like a portion of a fossilized marine snail of some sort. I'm no expert, but it sure looks like that to me.

As always Julie Anything over 400 years old,that collects minerals in the cells of their structure is called petrified.................wood turns to rock,etc,etc......... Looks more like its a piece of wood to me,than petrified(my opinion of cource)........Nice item though.....

Looks like it could be a fragment of a cycad. I'd like to see a good side view. Does it have roughly diamond shaped markings on the side ?
