Curt is it really called snakewood or are you pulling my leg? Cause when I saw it I immediately thought it looked like snake skin too. I used to find long shred rat snake skins in my mama's strawberry patch that looked just like this texture. Ugh..

Wow, what an interesting collection of wood. Definitely some very colorful palm fiber and that snakewood is pretty neat too. That brecciated hunk is some wild looking stuff. I saw a similar hunk from Oregon once whee it appeared the whole log had fractured geometrically and then been resealed by agate almost like Stone Canyon jasper....Mel

Amazing wood Beef! I've never seen a whole lot of pet wood examples. Thank you for shoing these. I'm amazed at all the different pet woods out there.

Moon It's really called snakewood because of the similarity to snakeskin. I thought for a long time that it is the same stuff as the very rare snakewood in South America, but that is not correct. It is an extinct wood that was more of a huge vine than a tree. There is very limited information out there on snakewood and I've had a very hard time finding out a lot about it. Here's a snakewood cab Curt

Brian, what I would give just to tag along on one of your yard sale/estate sale/collection excursions. Love the snake skin and the knot. Looks like the end view of country style ribs.
