I had lost the key to my locked display case and finally this morning I cut the lock off. These are some I've collected over the last 50 years. I was fishing on the river bank and about a quarter inch of the edge was sticking out of the ground.I thought it was the edge of a smashed can and kicked it hard with my foot, and this blade flew out. The other side. the edge. Some of my larger points. The black one has a story behind it. I found half of it as I was driving my truck through a draw.Saw it out the window laying there. A year later I was driving my tractor in the same area and saw the other half out the corner of my eye. and smaller and finally small. These are commonly called bird points. Several books I've read in the past refer to these as toy points, made for the children to learn how to shoot. They were all found in the encampment area. snuffy

Very neat collection. Everytime my grandaddy plowed his garden we would find arrowheads. Mostly made of quartz. This was about 30 miles south of Atlanta. If you stopped in a BBQ place or gas station in South Georgia you would see hundreds of arrowheads mounted in frames. I was always so envious.

Very nice collection. My mom has a few boxes of points my grandpa found working the fields on their farm (N.E. Wisconsin). I haven't seen them for years, but I'm sure she still has them. What a great story about finding the black point, too!

That is not only a great collection of points but also great stories of how you found them. I mean really, what are the chances of finding the 2 broken halves 1 year apart. That is part of what makes this hobby so wonderful. The amazing and the unexpected.
Thanks for sharing it was a lot of fun looking and reading.

Snuffy: What we usually call arrow heads are dart points from an atlatl not a bow. The atlatl was in use until only a few hundred years back. Arrowheads are about an inch long or less. Bird points are about 3/8" to less than a 1/4"
You do have a great collection there.......the first one is really a great find. The big boy collectors would grade this one pretty high. My guess (I am no expert) is that you have a Mineral Springs point, 1300 to 1000 B.P. with a colector value of $3500 to $8000. Ya going to lock it back up now? Woody
