www.lightofmorn.com/html/colorful.htmThen I woke up. Hi all. Stumbled across link and thought I'd share it with everyone. The place this find was made is about 15 min from my house. This is a boulder of New Almanden Poppy jasper, or Guadalupe poppy jasper. Be sure to click on the links on the bottom of the page for more pics. I'll say one thing though, if I found this, it would be preserved in my garage and my tumblers and with you folks here on RTH, not with the parks dept. Ed

I would not have been so eager to donate that to anyone but a rockhound with a 48" saw!

I would have had a hard time not breaking it up and packing it out day by day in my pack. Of course, I would've gave RTH'rs first dibs...and I would've shared my find. Thank goodness no Banana Slugs were harmed in the removal...would've had PETA out there not allowing such a removal! Thanks for sharing the story Stoner...now get a group together and go find another biggun! I guess that also means we need to start looking at bigger boulders more carefully! Steve

Well, you can bet the preservationists have different ideas about the boulder. To them, rockhounds are like the scavengers who take copper pipes and aluminum sideing off of buildings and then sell it to scrappers. I guess that's why the red horn coral site is now closed to the public. It's too bad, really. I would have liked some of that jasper for myself too.

Well I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who would just bust something like that up and carry it out. I think I got Tony fired up to go hunting so.....wish us luck.

Ed, you found the link to the "dream" rock that you were talking about the other. Sounds like we need to start exploring the local creeks and see if we can't find some for ourselves! Cal

So I guess this means you're into a hunt too? I'm busy this weekend, but I think the next weekend is ok with me.

Oh that rock is just crying out to be polished and made into beautiful things that we can wear and touch and make presents with. That's just not right to let it sit there, maybe we can have a protest and demand they set it free for us to tumble.
PS ... Ed, Tony, Cal ... much success on your hunt, I hope you find lots of it!!
