I recently found a new friend at work who does alot of Knapping. Every weekend he is working a show or festival somewhere in the area. This weekend, a club that he belongs to was hosting a Lost Arts Festival in Grand Rapids(OH), and I decided to meet up with him and his fellow knappers, and sat with them to learn some of the techniques they use to make their points. I am kind of self taught as far as knapping goes - by trial and error(lots of the latter!?!), so it was nice to get some pointers to see if I can improve my skills a bit. They had many of their points on display and were cranking others out as people watched. I forgot the camera - as usual, but I do have a few pics of some of the points that they helped me with, along with a couple of nice Obsidian blades that my friend gave me to bring home. It was a great day and I hope that I will have more chances to join them again, because I'm starting to get hooked on knapping now. 2 Obsidian Blades about 6-7 inches long each... Top is Mahogany.....Bottom is a lighter transparent brown.... These are 2"-3" points and blades that I worked - all are Flint Ridge material except the dark red which is Pet Wood.... One more blade about 2-1/2" made from Flint Ridge material...... Thanks for looking... Dave

Thanks Saskrock. I have a long way to go though - still breaking more than I'm making!

Thanks guys - Like I mentioned I still have a lot to learn, but after sitting in with those guys at the festival, I found many mistakes that I was making and 2 of those points were actually made after I got back home. I made them in half the time that it normally takes me and they were much easier to do with the techniques I learned. Now I'm not afraid to work on some of the materials I've been holding back on.
