Took a neighbor fossil hunting today near Pine Mountain above Ojai, Ca along a river bottom. I love that you can find marine fossils at a 4,000 foot elevation. The area is best known for sand dollar and brittle star fossils. Today we brought back some more basic items. Found a sand dollar, some turitella-like shells, and lots of oyster. The most interesting are as follows: Snail: Vertebrae (possible whale) [(edit) my wife, who is an archeologist specializing in coastal native american tribes, says it looks more like it's from a seal or similar marine mammal...] And marine worm castings? Thanks for looking, Lowell

That is a vertebra. Is that from the shark tooth hill area ? I have 4 vertebrae from that area that I collected in the 1950's. Two of them are fused together. I'll try to get a good pic to post. Don
