We're here in Montana and thought I'd share some pics. Know how Shannon likes pics of abandoned weathered buildings, so how about a train car. Castle Mountain formed when the limestone eroded away and left these granite rock formations. We rode up into the Little Belt Mountains today and took in some pristine scenery. Love this little hill. Last night's sunset. Some rocks might have made their way into our truck bed. ;D Thanks for looking! Jo

Nice pictures, looks like the beetles have gotten to the trees there too, unfortunately. I've never collected there but looks like I might have to give it a go sometime. Didn't know there was Larsonite in Montana.

Hello Jo.. If you get close to the small town of Martinsdale [ not to far from White Sulphur] and like museums I heard the Bair museum is interesting. ....Jim

Jim, darn... if I had known about it sooner, we would have went yesterday. Heading Missoula way today. Oh well... thanks so much for letting me know about it, maybe we can see it another time, it looks like something I would want to see.
Diane, I think they're trying to manage those beetles as best they can. They were taking out dead trees and making piles along the road.

They are trying to manage beetles here too but unfortunately it's too late for a lot of the trees. You will see less beetle killed trees towards Missoula as the beetles haven't hit as hard there fortunately. Safe travels.

We went through Helena today and I definitely saw what you mean. Such a shame to see those large brown patches of trees on the mountains. Hey, I was out cleaning up my rocks and we had a hail storm here in Missoula. I put on my hat and stood in it. ;D

Gorgeous pics, Jo - thanks for sharing! By the way, I wouldn't try to polish those little round white rocks - they're a -5 on the MOH's scale, I think! LOL!
Tom
PS - I'm jealous - I'd love to be able to just take off and drive all over the northwest and sightsee and hunt rocks and stuff. Maybe some day.....

Jo, you said it was raining but nothing about hail. Sheesh they look big enough to hurt. Beautiful pics. That abandoned train car would make a great diner.

Hope you waved at me as you blew by yesterday ;-)
LOL Tom, yeah those little white rocks sure don't take a good polish, too slippery...lol.
Glad we didn't have the hail here. We did get a pretty good thunderstorm.
