How are the wheels and PVC spacers, that are in between the 2 bearing blocks, held tightly enough so that the wheels don't stop spinning when you press a rock against them?

You tighten the bolts at each end of the shaft. You hold the V-belt tight while tightening each side separately. An oversize washer under each bolt puts pressure on the PVC sections & squeezes the whole thing together. Does that make sense? If not, I'll add a picture.

Here's the bolt on the left end of the shaft. It's left-hand threaded. As I tighten the bolt, the washer squeezes the entire assembly against the bolt on the right end of the shaft. I just grab the V-belt with my hand to keep the shaft from turning while tightening. I hope this makes sense. I tighten the bolts before tightening the setscrews for the bearings. The right-hand bolt is tapped to accept a spin-on lap, but with 10 wheels, I haven't had a need for one yet. Lynn

I am another novice at making things and need lots of drawings and pictures. What is the shaft make of and its dimentions? Where can we acquire one or make a similar one? Do you have photos of it before you started and during assembly?

You might want to PM our member spicerm. He manufactures these shafts sometimes.

Knot,
The shaft made by Mike Spicer (spicerm) is 46" long. He offered to make custom shafts for members of this site. Look him up in the members section & send him a private message.
I'm just about to make a second machine & I'll be getting price quotes locally & from Mike. Any local machine shop should be able to help you or steer you in the right direction.

Ryjen, Here's my simple gravity feed water system. I bought a $15 submersible pump at Harbor Freight, but haven't hooked it up yet. That will allow me to eliminate hanging the water. Either way, I'm going to move the valve from the bucket to the end where it plugs into the splash hood. www.playzar.com//rthphotos/water supply.jpg[/img] The metal sleeve in the top of the hood is the threaded tubing sold for making lamps. I glued it into the plastic hood. There's a copper tube hose clamped into the end of the plastic tubing that fits snugly into the metal sleeve. Lynn

All you need is a star diamond sticker and you could sell it for $2,000. What a great idea. You have done well.
