Hey, Not a wire wrapper but inspired to try I've only done less than 10 of these and none have turned out great.... but.... here is my 5 hour attempt tonight . Just so you know, I tried really hard to do the swirlies and I crimped the wires so bad I had to cut them off and re-bail with square wire. I don't have a clue what I'm doing but the efforts there. I started doing this cab tonight in silver plated (not the expensive stuff) and ruined all of it! Started again in antique bronze, almost used all of that too but finally got something that I can handle. It's a lapis. Please critique me! I really want to be able to do these! Advise is needed! Front: Back: Thanks for looking and thanks in advance for helping me out! ~Krystee

Your hard trying paid off Krystee. There's nothing wrong with that wrap that I can see. Very clean looking. On the back, the bends are symetrical and flowing. I can't do that for to save my butt , but wish I could! Very nice stone and wrap Krystee. ALL, the wrappers on here will tell you that you'll get better and more experienced with each one. You haven't even done 10 yet and look at what you produced. If you still have doubts, ask Randy to cratique it for you! My guess is, he would say the same You did good..........gary

You binding wraps are nice, tight and parallel. Your border is perfectly great, actually. The bail is the absolute hardest part of any wrap.
I don't know what the swirls looked like before you chopped them off, but I tell those I teach to play with scrap pieces of wire to test things out, and that it's easiest to do the swirls if you have extra length of wire. The fluid look to the swirls comes from a gentle hand and enough wire to bend.

Hey, we all started out where your at right now. Some of my firsts look real bad next to the ones I do now. The only thing that helps is just doing, the more you do the better it gets and you will start to develope your style of wrapping. here is a great place to go to get tutorials on just about any style of wire jewelry www.jewelrylessons.com/Your first looks way better than mine!

Krystee, I think the Lapis and the wrap are lovely. I couldn't do what you did. It looks tight and I personally like the simple look. Keep working at it and it will get better but that is a wrap I would love to have.

Not a thing in the world wrong with that wrap or cab. Just wish that I had the nerve to try wrapping. Don

That looks beautiful. The square wire on the bail wrap does look a bit chunky but ya work with what ya got so it's understandable. Also try not to fight the wire. I was doing that when I first started. It will bend so work with it not against it. Sometimes it doesn't do exactly what we want it to do but that's ok, it's better not to force the wire to comply. On craft wire especially I use less tool and more hand bending, cuts down on the gouging of the wire. Don't worry or give up, you will get better. Randy has a great tutorial on here. forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/index.cgi?board=wwp&action=display&thread=26661and Marie's tutorial for swirlies is also a good resource for learning how to wire wrap. forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/index.cgi?board=wwp&action=display&thread=36528Otherwise my advice is some I got when I first started from a wise and wonderful wrapper (hi Randy, yep, you...lol), practice practice practice!

Wear that pendant with pride Krystee, it's fabulous.
I smiled when you said "5 hour" wrap, because I was there not that long ago. I couldn't believe it would take me several hours to do one "simple" wrap. Like Gary said, it gets easier with practice. My hands are usually shaking when I finish one because it stresses me out trying not to mess it up before it's done. I think one problem I create for myself is not using long enough wires. As Ronda said, "a gentle hand and enough wire to bend it." I forget to do the last part lol.

Everything about that looks excellent o me. I can't even tell where you cut off the other 3 wires. Good job. The only thing wrong is it took 5 hours to do it. My first ones did too. The more you do, the faster you will get.

Thanks guys for the encouragement!!! I have studied Randy's tutorial religiously but like you all have said, practice, practice practice! It's a good thing there is a beading store very close to me, have a feeling I'm going to become one of their best customers . Frog&Bear, Thank you for the link! Don, I don't have the nerve just the insanity ;D Nate, Yep, took me forever. Hope I get better at this soon because otherwise my kids will start to think I'm neglecting them Seriously though, I don't seem to have the patience to just stay put and perfect one thing at a time. I am all over the place with dremel cabbing, saw cutting, tumbling, trying to wrap and joined a local rock club, two actually. I keep wondering which area of this hobby I will enjoy the most and have come to a very disturbing conclusion.... ALL OF IT!!! ~Krystee

Hey Krystee, It dosen't look like you tried... I'd say you succeeded ... That wrap looks great to me. I'm not a fan on using square wire on the bail bind, but that's only because I tried once and the wire kept trying to twist on me, it just wouldn't lay right, so I just gave up and used half round as usual. So as far as the bail goes, I'm impressed. Other than that, your wires are straight, binds are tight and even your little curls on the back are nice and graceful... so, nice work.. Really, my only critique would be a little better lighting you know, so we can see it better Oh, and 5 hours is about right...lol ;D Can't wait to see your next one... Chris

You all sure know how to make me smile, love it, I'm a sucker for knowledge and compliments (as long as they are real)!!! Chris, THANK YOU for posting your first wrap!!! Even your first wrap, you got "tricky" with it! I think you already know my favorite wrap of all time is yours. And I will apologize again for hijacking one of your past posts to remind everyone about it! As far as the square bail, yep, it wasn't my choice... I used up every bit of wire in almost two colors that I had. My next one will be better hopefully ! ~Krystee
