Years ago when Yung first started making gemtrees she glued the polished rocks onto her trees. The polished rock gave up being glued to the wire and fell off after maybe a year. A much better idea was to use drilled chip beads and fine copper wire. The fine copper wire has to be wrapped to give it strength. It made a much better looking tree and closer friends.
How the holes get in the beads I haven't a clue.
