Sterling Silver went way up in the last three days. Fire Mtn Gem 22 ga. square about $4.58 ft. Rio Grande 22 ga. square about $2.04 (buying by troy oz. about 24 ft) Even silver is almost too high to use better not make any mistakes Donna

Ugh, I gotta buy wire and I'm hating the thought! I'm sending in some scrap to offset some cost, but I'm just having a hard time getting my head around everyone saying this is cheap and it's gonna go up. I'm doing more with copper at the moment, and the price of that is going up too. Gonna have to look at brass wire more seriously now.
Maybe we all should be huntin' gold while we're huntin' rocks. Jo

I just got some silver wire a few weeks ago. I believe I got a troy oz. Now I'm wishing I had bought 3x as much...
Time to order some brass wire.

I've held onto my scrap as it just wasn't enough to offset anything, but with over 3 oz of scrap clippings now, they'll be headed in for my next order. I bought 2 oz about 2 months ago, and really wishing I'd purchased more.

Just watch the news: the Fed prints money out of thin air, civil unrest in many nations, natural and man-made disasters...

It wasn't too long ago that silver took a bad dive and for a short time it was at 10.00 /oz. I wish I had stock piled then but couldn't, instead I scrapped what I had thinking it would plummet lower. What a laugh!

As much as it would hurt to buy a few extra ounces, I wonder if prices will just keep going up. I think it's time to get a draw plate and start melting down my scraps which I have been hanging onto for a number of years. Someone also gave me a chunk of silver ore and I have half a mind to see what I can get out of it! Probably not worth using it considering I was saving it to show kids at science fairs and don't know the first thing about smelting. ;D
Here are some things I have been working on to preserve wire: Measure everything: Figure out how much wire is needed for each swirl, swoop, and wrap and cut off only what is needed.
Plan ahead: Sketch up a plan of what any given wrap will be and use only the length of main wires needed. Not going to add a bunch of swirls? Shorten the main wires. In the past I can get it down to 2 inches of waste for each main wire. I am hoping to bring that down to 1/4".
Reuse: Reuse the wire from the ones that got taken apart, and see if any scraps can be reused without compromising the strength of the wrap. Get creative to turn ugly and unusable wire into new beautiful wraps.

I bought a bunch a couple of weeks ago, maybe I'll buy a bit more. I have some older gold/silver jewelry that I'm going to sell, I'll probably use that for the wire.

Sending in my scrap now to lock in the credit. Gonna buy when I'm feeling brave... Hmmm... Look for silver at yard sales and send garbage disposal chewed spoons in to Rio Grande?

I sure hope rock prices don't go up as fast as metal prices Roller. Maybe those prices are more solid since they are rocks after all ;-) I have thought about getting some brass and it's looking more and more like it may be a better option than buying more gf or silver. I am kicking myself that I didn't buy more last time I ordered but even at the lower price it was expensive for me.

Unless they start charging for rocks I pick up in the hills, then i guess the price will stay the same. Well actually, it is more expensive now as the gas prices are up so it takes more $ to get out there.
