You could get in touch with a manufacture and see if they would give up that information. Dr Joe or John at JSGems might have some relevant info

That's a good point Gary
I bought the used expandable wheel from them for five bucks! They said they don't make those belts sizes anymore but he had all these belts that were broken I bought one & tried epoxy'n it kind of failed
but your right ! get the belts for a smoking deal deal with it later always good to have SC belts about

$5. for that 8" expando drum!! Score!!! ;D Of course they are 8x3 now, but big bucks (for me anyway) I was just wondering if shipping tape (the kind with the threads in it) would work? An 1" to an 1 1/2" on either side of the joint. It's some pretty stickie stuff

You might try Barge Cement...it is a leather glue, and reuse the original tape. You want the yellow, and red tube. (old formula) the new one is 'compliant' and not near as good. both are still made. to use it put a coating on both surfaces, and wait until it will not stick to your finger. You only get one chance are placement, so be sure you have everything lined up. Woody

The adhesive will pull off of tape and tape creates a bump too. www.filmtools.com/bace1qshgron.htmlPossibly a flexible epoxy. Use the minimum amount possible as it will squeeze out. Clamping is a must. Good luck and Keep us posted on your progress. Dr Joe .

Be interesting to see how things work out. I have several old 6 X 2-1/2" cork polishing belts with the same tape problem. Don

Well there ya go Ed, soundslike Barge cement is the way to go. As far as the alignment - make yourself a jig to hold the belt in position

Can't help you but good luck and keep us informed. I picked up two brand new 8" x 2" drums at a tailgate show once and 3M made diamond belts that size. I think they are a thing of the past. If the diameter is same as the current 8" x 3" drums you could probably use 3" belts and let the extra hang over (if you can't save the old ones). If they are SC belts it isn't worth spending a fortune to salvage them.

These are 3-M belts on Tri-M-Ite cloth so there probably great belts
but you are right John unless I could get them at a killer price even given away AND find an easy efficient way to re-tape/glue them not worth to much hassle and especially the time grind time is at a premium :help:

Ed, before you reglue them measure the length of one. It seems like the drums I bought were labeled for a slightly different size (like the Exact Spans). The standard length should be 25 7/32". I'm pretty sure the drums were in 3M label boxes and DP had 8" x 2" belts in their catalog. New catalog came out with no 3M diamond belts so I don't know if 3M still makes them or not. You will need the exact length for them to work properly.

The one I glued did fit the wheel The used expandable is pretty nice metal body and the cushion rubber is in good shape i'll get a 8 x 3 belt to try it but not doing a lot S/C sanding anymore for obvious reasons...
