Have any of you completed the projects you planned four years ago? I'd love to see them. Yeah I did several tables. Most of them with paper pieces but I have one stone tabletop. I must have made a separate thread for it. Hold on, and I'll see if I can find the photo. All of my projects are indoor tables, not outdoor tables. I still haven't cleared enough space for the outdoor table. It's coming though. I just have to sell a few more rocks, and I'll have a free spot for it. I have a good many slabs that would be perfect! Also I just remembered reading this thread that I wanted to make a "stars" tabletop. I have a buncha little thunderegg minis that look like stars that would be perfect for this...

I can't find the write-ups I did right now. I have over 4,000 pages on my personal diary so even *I* can't read it. Ha ha. But here's a simple starter project, the wine table: Can't find the photo that shows the whole table right now, maybe if I get time, I'll grab another photo later. Right now it's the table near the front door that holds a small stone mosaic box that contains the coupons and gift cards. It also catches the outgoing mail, so I can grab it and take it out the box on the way out to the door. So I use it all the time. It wouldn't be good for holding drinks or anything but for catching the mails and the gift cards, it's perfect. That stuff can look kinda trashy if you don't corral it: Those projects use a decent adhesive, grout, some brown or black paint over color as an accent. Same as my picture frame projects if you remember those. But you can collect small tables and use it for paper too. People throw them out pretty often when they get scratched so...here's one with a table top made of old maps: This one has multiple shelves, I just did a black over Chinese red on the table top, and the two lower shelves are decoupage made from old first class/business class air tickets, metro/subway/tube tickets, ferryboat tickets, etc. I have tickets from every continent, Africa, Asia (well Japan, Macaw, and Hong Kong), Europe, North and South America, Australia...only Antarctica is missing. So it was a fun project.

Oh, if you can stand one more...if you want to see if you like this kind of style, you can start small with a bowl. I use this bowl on top of the map table to catch the bills. I pay once a week and then the bowl's empty again. But it could catch keys or mittens or really any small object that would otherwise kinda wander around the house. How to do it, you'll probably understand in a glance from this photo of when I was working on the stone tabletop: OK I'm rambling on too much with my brags! Enjoy! I know it's a little bit eccentric/outsider-y but it's a style I really like to show off the stones.

Is it flat or bumpy? For my outdoor table, I may ultimately want to put stemmed drinks on it so I would want a flat surface. Otherwise that's a lot like something that would interest me. Here's one I photographed in May in Jackson, MS. It's basically pebbles in epoxy and it IS flat enough for martinis. But I somewhat fail to see the point of using my good tumble polished stones if it's going to be in epoxy pour...and I'm not crazy about epoxy so I don't know if I'm going to try it. Proof of concept: Color note: I know the apple martini is blue. It was blue in person. Don't remember why.

It is a flat smooth surface. I was in Prineville Oregon last week and stopped in for a burger at the Tastee Treet burger place. Photo is of counter top. Another picture from the Tastee Treet. notice the reflection of lights in picture. The owner would not let me do any digging!

This was a great thread to resurect. I'm totally stealing ideas here. The wife has been bugging about redoing the halfwall topper in the bathroom. My laminating and routering skills leave something to be desired apparently. Thanks all

Thanks. I have a lot of pet wood that it might be worth slabbing for a project like that.

Thanks. I have a lot of pet wood that it might be worth slabbing for a project like that. The ones I saw slabbed for tables were slabbed real thin maybe 1/8"

Well, these pics aren't of tables, but mosaics, nonetheless. And no, I do not have the energy to take on a project of this magnitude, lol. (A table top would be exceedingly simple by comparison.) A lot of the structures/ fanciful statues were made using ceramic tiles, pieces of tiles and other things. But there was also a lot of whole rock and slabbed and polished rock incorporated. A whole lot of work involved!!
These photos were taken in a local park, Queen Califia's Magical Circle link. It is located in Escondido, CA, about 45 minutes north of here. A little-known place, a hidden treasure.
We were there on a sorta gloomy day, so not real crowded with kids. These are just a few of the photos I took there.
If you are ever in Escondido, you shouldn't miss it. Check their website to see when they are open.
