Thanks Bill good info
off the top of my head I thought fossils were of an extinct or ancient species that go thru a petrification process
All fossils specimens are petrified but not all petrified are fossil
to use my Aristotelian logic :2cents:

Thanks Fossilman !
How do you think they do replica's ?
I was thinking a reverse plaster casting Cast an object, Then make a replica of it using some type of composition to give authenticity. In this case, a casted bass or carp.
I'll get the neighbor to bring it back I'd like to determine what type of material its made of she had shown me a drill mark in it --that someone started all I could tell was that its tough material

yep its excellent what can be done
if this is replica its worth what? ten dollars ? if it was actually chipped out of rock and is the original it may be worth hundred times that
knowing the difference would make me much more wealthier after I paid my school loans ha ha mostly

Replica go for big bucks too,the person selling them has to be honest about the sales too,in telling a person they are what they are!I would buy some replica's... Fake on the other hand is when they are dishonest about what their selling and try to pass it off as real, that goes with any made product.... Its good to study up on the areas you wish to collect in..........If there are any Universities in the area, they will look at stuff like that and tell you everything about the object...
