I missed the last post Dan, sorry. With smaller hole saws (up to 1/2 or 5/8) I run the drill press at max, 3000. With the larger hole saws I slow it down to the slowest setting which is 560. I run the up and down method of drilling just like if I am drilling small holes in agate. Jim

I am equally impressed with your tooling. The vise looks like it has been around since medieval times and the government test fired a few a-bombs clamped in it. I got 2 old drill press clamps like that. Could you imagine staring up at twist drills coming at you all your life. I like your customized processes very much. That's what makes new and unusual. You are my hero Jim.

Wow, talk about stating the obvious, LOL! If a person is not smart enough to figure that one out, they have no business using the tool!! Quick, get out of the shop, before you hurt yourself!! Don't touch anything!
Please note, I am NOT referring to you, Jim. Looks like you know how to use tools.
Speaking of, how's your project truck coming along?

Jim, I am just wondering why you don't use smaller sanding drums to finish the inside of the ring? Is the ring better that way? Just curious.

Speaking of, how's your project truck coming along? I had a duh period with the pickup. It was running rough so I bought plugs and wires to see if that would help. I lifted the hood, looked at the distributor and figured out that the engine would run better if all eight wires were attached to the distributor. lol Connecting that eighth wire made a huge difference.
The only other improvement that I have made is new door pulls/arm rests. The part that you grab to close the door is local cedar and I put the same foam pad on the arm rest that is on the floor. Everyone that sees them goes "wow" so I guess I made a good choice. Thank you for asking. I am surprised that you remembered.Jim

Back then my rotary tool was down so I did not have much choice. I guess that I could have chucked a drum sander in the drill press and worked the ring on it but I did not think of that until I read your post. lol The only thing that I do on the inside is take the sharp corners off. My rotary is up and running now so I will use your suggestion. Jim

Jim, you're welcome. It's a beautiful project, and I wondered how you were doing on it.

Definitely not a suggestion. Just a curiosity. I have no clue what makes a nice ring.

Can you clamp metric sized pieces? I have metric and American adjustable wrenches.
