One member that I know of has used the rods. sdgoldpanner (Bob) has made his own cups. But he's not on here very often. Send him a PM. If I see him on face book or the Treasure Hunting wiki, I'll tell him to check his mail on here.
Checked your first link, and it seems to be down.

I use sphereheaven's 40/60 and 220 diamond welding rod with excellent results, I could not imagine going back to using grit. After 220 I switch to the BD grinding cups with the diamond pads, taking it up to a 3000.

I've never welded before so I'm trying to figure out if I should just buy the pre-made cups or try and learn how to weld. Justin

Hi Justin,
I brazed up the sphere cups I had and I bought additional bell reducers so that I would have diamond grinding cups of all possible sizes in both 60 and 220 grit. I would definitely recommend buying a cheap gas welder on CL because the cups will need occasional resurfacing.

Justin, have you ever soldered anything? Brazing is soldering with brass, you heat the steel till the steel is hot enough to melt the brass and use the heat to flow the brass where you want it to go

Hi Justin,
There "Brazing Rods" are actually welding rods, they are thin steel tubes filled with the diamond compound. It will require a gas welder to apply these. The first application is a bit tricky, make sure your cups a clean as you can get them, I sand blast mine. Then you need to get it cherry red and apply the diamond rods with lots of flux. Once you get the hang of it goes real fast. You may want to look at the small gas unit that harbor fright has, I think it is around $150. It is similar to what Lee mentioned, just does not flow as well.

Tim, I'll take a look at the HF gas model. This link user.xmission.com/~ranthon/lapidary.htm seems to indicate you can use an electric or gas torch? I'm not sure what that means. Do you think that small Homedepot torch would work? Justin

Hi Justin, I checked out there web page and it does look like it should work with and arc welder (not Mig). I already had a gas welder so that's what I used. I don't thing you would be happy with the home depot welder you posted the link for, I don't think the tanks would last very long for welding steel. I would try and locate a gas welder on craigslist, in Phx I see them posted all the time. You can probably get a full size setup for less then $200 ex: phoenix.craigslist.org/wvl/tls/2930187718.htmlYou could get some tanks like the ones above and then pick up a Lincoln guages and hose setup at HD or HF, for fairly cheap. I don't know how many spheres you plan to grind, I planned on 8 or 10 and then selling the sphere machine. I have now made over 50 of them. So, I have resurfaced my grinding cups several times. Tim
