I took a wire-wrap class last nite at the local club, and made this pendant. It's my first attempt, and came out pretty good I thought. I used the instructor's wire and tools, so I won't be doing any more wire-wrapping til I order some of my own, but thought I'd show it:). This is from Hand2Mouth's obsidian cabs I tumbled. Beautiful stuff and everyone at the club loved em!! Here's a better pix of the color in the Obsidian And here's a group shot of the finished Obs cabs... shooting the colors is REALLY hard: And here's the 'clamshell' cut I did, this one I planned to embed a small round stone in the top eventually:

That is a killer wrap. I love the look of a shawl over the shoulder. You did really good with not getting tool marks on the wire like a lot of us noobs. Jim

Good lord, you're a natural!! That's the cleanest job ever that I've seen from a first timer, you need to get some tools as soon as possible and make another so that you don't loose anything that you've learned. The best priced tools on the net are at www.monsterslayer.com/Pages/PliersSherSnip/PlierShrNip.aspx , and scroll down to the last set of pliers on this page, here's what you need...... PL-HDP-RDNS (round nosed pliers, PL-HDP-NFNS (narrow flat nosed pliers), and a good pair of cutters, PL-SNP-SHER (about half-way up the page). The total price for these is less than $25, these are the same tools that I use and they work great!!

Helen, excellent job! The thing about wrapping is that it does grow on you! At first, it seemed pretty unnatural to me, but now, it's actually starting to be relaxing...especially if I've got a good stone! Looks like your's are great! Enjoy!

You guys are so sweet:). If not for YOUR pictures here, it would not even occur to me to try it! So really, my doing this successfully had more to do with all you guy's photos and inspiration!!
I also had a WONDERFUL instructor. Linda was patient and explained everything perfectly. Plus, I got to use her tools, which helped a lot...boy, none of the tools I already had would have worked very well.
I'm new to wire-wrapping cabs... but I'm not new to making jewelry, so I know how tight to wrap wires, and not leaving gouge marks in the wire. Even so... I DID manage to gouge the wires in a couple of spots, I'm just glad it wasn't in the most noticeable areas:P. It helped a ton to have someone who was really good actually walk me through the steps telling me to not do this or to do that.
I will definitely check out the link Randy!! I have bought findings from Monsterslayer before and I really like them! Do you get your wire from there too?
Also, I have way more appreciation for wire-wrapping when I see it now:).

I get all of my gold filled and silver wire from Rio Grande, black wire from Parawire and brass from Brandywine.

Thanks guys!! Next class I'm going to try is silver-smithing:).
Jukerocks, I'm in Central Florida and the class I took was the wire-wrapping class at the CFMGS (Central Florida Gem and Minerals Society). Linda is the instructor and she does classes on Tues and Sat's, but not every week (check the calendar). She should be teaching this Sat (tomorrow) if you can come out, email first to confirm that you will be there, the instructors will not show up if no one RSVP's:P.
Tomorrow morning is a faceting class too, and my son wanted to take that, so I'll probably be there tomorrow morning:).
