Hi Adrian,, Heat in the loft: I've had an idea for many, many years about a supplement hot water storage system in a loft,,,,or "attic" as we call it here and shared my thoughts with my son(who is in the business). He didn't seem very interested in it! LOL The type of system,,weather or not the system could be used and it's actual construction would depend on the climate where the house is built. As you know it gets very hot in the attic and in some homes exhaust fans are used to blow some of the heat out.Our attic on a typical summer day will be about 120-150F(48-65C). The system would consist of a storage tank without any insulation on it and a heat exchanger/fan,,,,something like the radiator in a car. Pipes to connect the heat exchanger and tank and of course some temp and directional valves. Here is a VERY simplified schematic of the system without any control valves, etc,,,,,,,,,, imageevent.com/tcknkk/crazystuff?p=165&b=-1&m=24&c=4&w=1&s=1&n=1&l=0&z=9I don't know if I got the link posted right?? LOL Good idea keeping all the wine it the basement,,,,,,next to your rock shop! LOL Enjoy your New Creation! connrock

Well, hello again, friends! It's been a looong break and lots of work in between, but now I finally am able to post some pictures of our home. Some outside pictures, firstly. The main facade: The kitchen entry steps, with Sisi and Buflete: They got beyond tolerating each other, by now: Here is Buflete trying to inspect Ina's coffee: Despite Buflete's tries, Ina managed to go in the gazebo with the coffee: Here is our vegetables garden, with some cabbage, cucumbers and some unplanned melons: We also planted some flowers in the yard. Not many, but it's a start anyway, right? OK, let's go inside the house now; watch your steps: Do you like the flowers in the flower box? Ursi is welcoming you in the house: This is the entrance hall: Here is a pic for Connrock. The ducts to and from the heater. Tom, I hope you understand the logic of those pipes more than I do Now, the basement. Not fully arranged, but at least you can have a picture of it. Well, not one picture, two of them The working area: The storage area - half of it is used for rocks: Let's go back upstairs again. This is the living room viewed from the entrance hall: The whole living room, picture taken from the stairs: The fireplace, displaying my sword together with other small rocks: The "music mountain". Ya know, that thing can vibe your stomach if the volume goes past half: Let's go upstairs now: The steps lead to this upper floor hall... ... from where we can go to the bureau... ... to our bedroom... ... or to Ioana's bedroom: And, a final picture. It was taken yesterday. Yesterday we celebrated one year since the very first shovel of ground was dug here. We managed to gather with us our parents and Godparents for the house-warming party. The persons are, clockwise: Ina (pretty in pink), our godfather, Ioana, Ina's Mom, my Mom, Ina's Dad (standing) and our godmother (Ina's cousin) Even this post is made one year sharp after the very first post in this mammoth thread. There was a real pleasure to share the progress of raising our home with you, the members here. Thank you very much for your interest, replies, jokes and advices. Ina and Adrian

First, I commend you, your wife, and your daughter for doing, and keeping us informed on this fine project. It's not easy. Thirty years ago, I did about the same thing; study..., design, and build. Energy efficient housing in the U.S. seems to lag behind Europe, and that was the basis for a lot of my study. I could sit and discuss this aspect of your construction for hours. Please do, keep us informed on how your house works by itself, with a minimum of energy input. Your climate is similar to ours, but with about half the rain we get. The house itself [both inside and out] is quite a thing to see, so many really nice details, so many features worked to great visual advantage. Thank you so much for all the time and updates. Oh, must not miss, the "small" rocks around the fireplace, good to see some of the outside brought inside. Looks great.

It's kind of a "bitter-sweet" time for me to see your creation finished! Bitter because I won't be able to see the progress on the home and sweet because I am very happy for you and your family to finally be able to enjoy it! It's hard to believe a full year has gone by so fast and that so much has been done from that first shovel of dirt was dug in an empty lot! Now all of the flowers outside will spread and grow, the vegetable garden will give you fresh veggies and maybe Buflete will help you dig up the plants! LOL I know that you understand all of the plumbing systems inside and out because you designed them so I know everything will work great in the future. I wish you and your family all the luck in the world with your new home and that you can enjoy it for many years to come! connrock
