yep, a long iron rod and only difference is that its pounded deep into the ground with only about 10 - 12 inches left out to connect to we had a new ground rod installed and it was 6 footer that they left about 8 inches to attach to out of the ground if your having a dry spell and the ground around the foundation of your home where your ground resides is dry, try watering it and keeping the soil moist there dry soil will not ground as well as moist
