LOL, I had an 8' X 12' greenhouse until a couple years ago when a small tornado cut through the field just west of us. I found polycarbonate panels a half mile away.

And another addition to my ever growing fossil library arrived yesterday. This one has already helped to identify a Michigan fossil.

Experiment in progress. I received these and several other fossils from Rob - Juggler Guy a while back. The shells were partially encrusted with a gray clay type shale. I've found that by soaking the pieces over night in water, then freezing them, the shale will start to loosen. These have gone through 5 cycles of freeze, thaw, clean and refreeze. Preliminary ID is Atrypa Spiriferida, (Lamp Shell) from the Potter Farm shale formation, Alpena Co., Michigan.

Those look great, Don! I have to get out this weekend and pick some more up. Now you've got me wanting to clean some up.

The freeze / thaw thing really does work with this type of matrix, but it's a slow process. I may try soda blasting a couple, just to see if the shells are hard enough to take it.

A new reference book arrived today. Written by a person who collected his first trilobite at age 14, and has spent the last 30 + years collecting and studying them.

Got a gift in the mail today from one of my western South Dakota friends. A Neospirifer from the Pierre Shale in South Dakota. It measures 1.425" across the shell. It still needs a little shale removed, and a good cleaning with my little soda blaster. Pics are very slightly larger than actual size.

Woo Hoo ! I'll soon be able to display my fossils and fossil books properly. I just ordered an antique 4 shelf barristers bookcase with lift up glass doors and a small drawer in the base. Gonna be nice to be able to pull all of my fossils out of their boxes and wrappings.

Tools of the trade when working on fossils. I scored these 22 used dental pics on ebay. They are surgical stainless steel. They can be heated and be re bent to the shapes needed, and can be resharpened many times over.
