Any one have one polished to 3,000 or 8,000 grit? Looks cool.

That's a nice one Fossilman! I've got a couple that are nearly that good.
They're also called "black diamonds". Yes, they're quartz, like Herkimer diamonds. The spot on Judith Mountain is easy to recognize, but kind of a challenge to get to unless you know the area or are persistent. Once you get to the location you'll see thousands of them in matrix and some weathered out.

Yep, look like Herkimer "diamond" shapes to me ... Any internal colors, FossilMan? Not really............Not much to them except for the cool shape that mother nature put on them....
